SLOSH or SLX20SHV

Just keen to hear if anyone thinks it is worth spending the extra 40 odd euro on the newer model as the old one has a great reputation. Am looking for a stronger reel, fast retrieve, that casts very well. Bought the original Penn Mag but dont fancy it too much, ending up putting 30lb line on it for close in heavy work. Want something for about 18lb line, mixed ground or when a bit of winching is required but above all something that casts well.

I have the old Slosh 30 and the SHV 20(the one after the old slosh).
Both are excellent reel. The SHV20 is a flyer, can cast really well. I use Suffix 18lb on mine and have hauled in Congers up to 15lb, treble dogs etc etc . . its a powerhouse that can cast well for one of the "bigger reels".

I use my reel down the bottom of the rod and have pretty small hand and have no problem using it this way.

Friends of mine have the older model slosh 20, i think the main difference is that it isnt as good to cast or isnt as fast. But retrieve etc is the same.
And its built to last as are all the sloshs' . . .
Not really a conclusive post i guess but for the €40 saving i'd probably get the older model slosh.

i have the 30 model of both and while i prefer the older model for out and out rough stuff, i would agree with rocker in that the newer model is a far better caster and seems to have a slightly better retrieve. one thing is that it is a very fast reel when casting so brake blocks and a slightly thicker oil is useful

thanks for the replies lads they were very helpful. Casting is the main thing so i might well go the extra if you think the newer one has the edge in that area. I was thinking it might be a good choice for somewhere like "the wall" where distance and power are both important. Now i just have to find some time to get out!
