Someday i will be going to dingle via Dublin. Would any of you tell me nearby
smoothound marks? Also what would be a good rig to catch them on?
Any help appreciated

they wont be back till around may, possibly late April, without doubt the best bait is peeler crab with hermits a close second, they will take ragworm sometimes and rarely will they take fish baits.

the best marks are to be had on the wexford and southern wicklow beaches, like ennereilly, morriscastle, rosslare, tinnabearna etc on a clam summers night combined with a rising tide.

i use a pulley pennel with 3/0 hooks to present the crab at its best, though ive caught them on scratching rigs for flats.

if your going through dublin try get a session in on portmarnock/malahide beach in the dark. this can be a very gud area for smoothies at this time.
