Team Daiwa Costal smock - Any good???

Mon Nov 19, 2007 9:32 pm

I am looking to get a new waterproof smock as my Imax one has run its course. I have it for 2 years but after about a year of heavy use the taped seams started coming away.

My personal view from reading previous threads is that you get about a year of good use (if lucky) and then you buy a new one. There does not seem to be many good comments across the board for any particular make.

Does anyone have experience (6months - 1 year) of the Team Daiwa Costal smock or the new imax high performance smock?

How should you look after your smock to get the best out of it?

Hi John Id say the Daiwa would be your best bet but I have the Titan one and have it now since june 03 and its still warm and waterproof hope this is of help to you.

Hi dbrock

Have the origional imax smock, goog design etc but the taped seams did start to leak after a year. Then again I treated it badly.

I'm sure that the new green and black version is even better made.
Do you have your long? Where did you get yours?

John,
I use a Greys Apollo smock and am delighted with it so far (16mths). I know Lumpy got one recently and I'm sure he would give you an idea how he's getting on with his as he fishes mostly from the shore in all sorts of conditions.

Fully agree about the greys. Got one of the jackets a year ago, have been using it for most sessions since and its by far the best waterproof ive had. Even came off garryvoe last week relatively dry!

i bought one of the greys smocks and have been extremely impressed with it. ive fished in torrential rain and f7 winds with it on and never had the slightest sign of a leak or dampness and is totally windproof. definately the best smock ive used. also pretty light and comfortable which i guess helps.

I was thinking about the greys smock aswell. Seems to be fairly positive responces. They are about €35 cheaper than the new imaxsmock. Might go for the greys so. Do the cuffs work well? I know they dont have the neoprene cuffs like the imax.

Seaniebo , nice to near someone was reasonably dry after garryvoe. I leaked in more water than all my previous outings combined and then some. I had my imax smock (with half the taped seems hanging off) over my waders, 2 hours into the comp the water had leaked through my smock soaked my jumper and then proceeded to wet all my trousers and start filling up my waders. I was so miserable. Never again, for the sake of €100. o ya my torusers split aswell so I had to wear my waders back to the bar.
