if money isnt an object i recomend the
silva L1
there is better our there and you get what you pay for
stay away from cheap ones.. they eat batteries and have a habit of not lasting long..(gone through a few cheap ones..) they are handy as a spare backup though :D

i have the L1 and find them a gift. very light, great power output and has a pretty good battery life especially on the powersave mode which is more than sufficient for the majority of my fishing needs

The spelo nova is a very good one its rechargable and is very light to carry around :) its does not have those big batteries you carry around your waist 8) retails @ e290  but it is worth the money

If I remember correctly the L1's are about €130 - €140 ish.
Personally I just bought this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=012 off ebay for £11stg Excellent light, not as good as the Silva, but it does use a 3Watt Luxeon LED so it's not that far off. The Led lights are excellent for baiting up and such and the main beam is good for checking the rod tip.

Im an LED lighting designer in Cork and have thought about making somehting like this in the past. Does anyone have any comments on what are the best things about lights like the silva. from the other posts in this i would guess that it would have to be brightness, lightweight, have a long battery life and cost between 50 and 200 euro.
For someone to develop one of these things its hard to compete with the likes of Petzl and those bigger companies who basically get the stuff made in some chinese sweatshop and flog loads of it over here.
Anyway enough waffle from me.
Cheers

Try Argos..15.30 Euro for a super bright LED, water resistant and free batteries. I've been using the same one for years I got in Dunnes, I change the batteries maybe once a year and does a good a job as any of the branded fishing lights that people pay stupid money for.

I've got a princeton tec apex on the way, will update when I've given it a shot. It's good by all accounts I've read, build quality a bit iffy at times but they exchange them if you have any bad problems with them.

it turns itself off and on at random, what can i say, its creative like its owner, but the light output is fantastic, recently ive fixed the faulty line with some tape.
