im just wondering if im using hard back crabs right.i was fishing 2 weeks ago of my local pier with hard backs 4 wrasse on float.but every time i was getting a bite.i would strike and reel in and all tat wud be left was the shell.the crabs were a bit bigger than a 2 euro coin.i was hooking them through the last leg socket and up through the top shell(only piece to be left)im wondering is tis the right way.

what size hooks were you on? wrasse can be frustrating and are expert at nicking crabs

you could try a stinger hook too, i have found with picky wrasse that you can double your hook up rates using the stinger

hi

size one or two hooks would be pretty small. fine if you are using rag or lug for smaller wrasse but such a small hook would get lost in among the legs of a crab and would be difficult to hook up with a lot of the time

depending on crab size i tend to use 1/0 to 3/0
