Thinking of upgrading gear at some stage this week, looking to spend
in the region of £150. Any advice on best value for money in belfast tackle shops, or any better on-line. thinking about 12 ft rod and fixed spool
as i cant get used to the multiplier's... :D :D :D

i suppose it depends on what kind of fishing you do and if you use braid or mono a shimano aerlex reel would be my choice they are suited to braid and mono and very reliable in fact i,d rather a second hand one than a new reel in another make , the rod is a tough one as you wont be looking at the more expensive rods, sea angler mag did an artical on budget rods a few months back it would be worth getting a look at if you can get a copy, its still a hard choice cos there are so many to choose from it will reck your head one way or the other

I've never heard anyone say that before  its probably one of the best compliments a product can get 8)

I agree 100% about the reel, had a couple for years.....sound investment!

Hi Minty,
Depending on what type of fishing you want to do there are a few good rods and reels available.
At 4-8oz you can pick up a Daiwa Sand Storm for about £100 on-line.
At 3-5oz you can get a Greys BZe for about £110.
And you can get either size of the Penn Surfmaster for £50.
You may be able to match those prices in tackle shops in your area but if not you can pick them up on-line.
I have both rods and a Surfmaster 850 which I team up with the Sand Storm. For the money I can't fault any of them.
Hope this is of help.
