Havn't heard Paul but can let you know Sunday if that's any help?

have often seen this were the sand is gone and u can see lots of buried trees, roots. there must have been a forest here before, the onshore wind and the big tides lasy wk. caused it.

ya art, apparently there used to be a forest there years ago, dont know if it was cut down or erroded away

do you think this have a detrimental effect on the fishing

I doubt it Paul, I've often fished Greystones and down by the archway there's often large mounds of earth uncovered so when you're casting out you're not standing on shingle but mud, it pertrudes out pretty far into the tideline and it's not affected fishing there at all.
It might drive flats away if the sandy bottom is gone.. otherwise...

Eoin,

if the sand is gone surely the lug and other food that lives in it will be gone too??????????

Yeah good possibility, but how far out? Are you talking a few hundred metres of a flat surf beach?

as i say i was only told about it, but i got the imression that it was a fairly substantial portion of the beach he was talking about

Fished Garryvoe in a comp 2 weeks ago and it was chronic. I am talking about right in front of the hotel. 1 guy blanked, 1 had 1 fish and four of us had 2 fish each. Loads of traces lost, i sunk down to my knee when wading out and no one had been digging. There were no lug marks and a few boulders were visible at low water. Halfway thru the comp we were told about the tree stumps.
Most annoying nights fishing in a while.

It's only the section of Garryvoe in front of the hotel that has this problem
this often happens.
Had it down as a venue for the Munster Closed Shore on Sept 30th. but on inspection that day it was deemed unsafe.

For any one looking for something to keep their ragworm in this peat is the job.
