Angling books

Just wondering does anyone have any recommendations? It doesn't have to be anything technical or specifically sea angling related, I'm just looking for a few good/interesting reads to help pass the long dark nights.

Thought it also might be a useful thread to start with Christmas only 8 weeks away.....Sorry for mentioning the C word.

A lot of Tom McGuane's stuff is great.
92 degrees in the shade is about skiff guides on the Florida Keys, The Longest Silence is a collection of short pieces.

If you're into boat angling you could do a lot worse than pick up a copy of Sea Angling in Ireland by John Rafferty.

Adventure fishing by Henry Gilbey is an interesting read. Picked it up for a tenner at my local bookshop.

And of course the classic Hooked on Bass. Well worth the investment if you've even the slightest interest in Bass fishing.

Sea fishing in the dingle pinisula (only if your going there)

Bass fishing: on shore and sea by john darling (more bait fishing and boat fishing for bass than hooked on bass but IMO a better read)

Baits and rigs from sea angler. (starting book thats a good reference but the rigs need updating)

Pike fishing: the practise and the passion by mick brown. (well worth the read as he puts alot of how fishing and his life)

Lord of the rings (I couldn't resist but golim is partial to the odd fish)

It's probably long out of print at this stage but if you can find a copy, Ken Whelan's The Angler in Ireland is a fantastic book and a great read.

join your local library they will get books in if you ask :lol: and its really cheep :lol:

There is a book written by a lad about his fishing in the North East of England and Scottish Borders. Whilst you might never fish here it tells tales of how he learned his craft from his father and is a wonderful read for anyone taught by their father. Well worth a look!

I have got books from a Welsh shop in the past which covers all sorts of hunting and fishing titles and has some out of print copies of many older books. Check the site and you may find something of interest. The shop is COCH-Y-BONDDU Books and the site is anglebooks.com. Thankfully the site is in English but its a gem of a book shop.
There was a brilliant book written about cod about 10yrs ago, it concentrated on the demise of the species in the Grand Banks and is a bible of how not to commercial fish. I can't remember the title but if anyone has any recollections I would appreciate a responce as I would like to track down a copy.
