Hi there! I wanted to change the trebles in my plugs/spinners for singles and I'm going totally crazy! Thing is I've never bought any hooks and don't know what sizes to buy. I've seen they may be different from brand to brand, which doesn't help at all, but I haven't been able to find the real measures (mm/in) anywhere.
So the question really is, which brand and/or size would you recommend (preferably barbless)? Someone suggested kamasan size 2. My plugs are Lucky Craft Sammy 115, Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow F8 (13 cm), and the like, mostly 10-13 cm. Spinners are the usual 1 oz german sprat, 1 and 2 oz wedges and kilties. The length (shank?) of the original trebles are roughly 22, 28 and some above 30 mm, and the gaps are around 10 mm.
I'd appreciate any help. Cheers!

Hi Inigo....
Singles hook IMHO is good...but very hard to get the proper one for the purpose.

U can still use an ordinary wide gap short shank hook with double split rings to attach them to your lure.
As for the size....i guess 1/0 to 3/0 will do according to the lure size. But then again its depend on the brands of the hook it self since different manufacture sometimes have different size compare to the other. In ur case i think any 2/0 or 3/0 will do.Just make sure its not an aberdeen hook....u need wide gape and short shank hook for better hook up since u replace ur treble....u dont want too small singles which will make it hard to hook on fish each time it hit ur lure.

Firstly, thank you for the replies. I kept searching and have found some helpful stuff. 1/0 to3/0 seem to be the right sizes.

I found there are jigging hooks   , e.g.:
Decoy Sergeant' Jigging Hook:

Owner Stinger Single S-77 (back) + Decoy Sergeant' Jigging (mid):

Do you think they would be OK?
One other thing. Point up or down? Up would minimise snagging, but I can't see how a fish could be hooked with the middle one facing up... :?:
Cheers!

Wow.....i used the long shank one....but i think its way over kill and the wire gauge is too thick for the penetration.....the gold one and the middle on the green chugger is mainly for jigging and i think most of them are big....dont go for a siwash type...the one with an open eye,and u can just directly attach it to the lure eye by crimping the eye using plier...i learn the lesson hard way....these are vital on the head shaking species and the one that like to trashing around when the line get short before landing such as seabass....

The purpose of split rings is to allow the hook to move around in some degree.....without it...the fish can use the lure body as a leverage to pry the hook open or the lure open......
Doing some search last nite.....come to this on ebay....i use them before and found them to be good.....no 1 and no 2 will do if i am not mistaken...

Thanks joe. What do you think of circle and octopus hooks? Have you tried them in lures? I'm finding hard to find the gamakatsu or vanfook hooks. Cheers!

Hi Inigo....
I think octopus hook will serve the purpose....but not the circle hook as its function and concept a bit different and not straight forward as other hook. The point of the circle is bent towards the gap of the hook....it will make it very difficult to hook up on the fast strike on big hard bodied lure, the body of the lure itself will overcome the effectiveness of the hook....unless using on fly or bait wch is small and can easily go inside the mouth of the fish.
The concept of circle is when the fish taken the bait and move away...the hook will try to move out of the mouth of the fish in appose to the fish movement, the bent point wont catch or hook other parts of the mouth other than the corner or lips.If u strike, the hook will easily pull out of the mouth without hooking it...hence the design of the point, its also make them wont catch on the snag easily....but theres still the case that when the fish will just swallow the hook and got hooked on the throat or deep inside. The most important things is...dont strike when u got a bite...let the fish hook it self.....or just tighter the line until u can feel the weight of the fish and start playing it...or u can give it a strike just for confirmation if u re sure that the fish already hooked.
