Hello all I am a recent convert to shore fishing. I have spent most of my fishing life fly fishing for trout and salmon. I live in cork but as a family we spend a lot of the summer in waterville.I always fished the lakes and rivers there but became interested in the bass fishing going on around there. I began fishing with bait and have had a little success on the beach (always after dark) on low tide coming in and always razor fish. Dogfish anytime i used sand eels. I return the fish as thats my way always fishing and I am converted to this new world. Now back in cork I have two questions as I seem to get conflicting reports. One is it worth fishing for them from now on? Through the winter? And where would I fish for them reasonably near Cork? within 30 miles radius or tactics for this time of year if its worth pursuing are they the same ? be great to hear from anyone.
thanks pat

Hi Pat,
If you look at the shore angling reports, you'll see the tactics you mention are being used to good effect on Cork beaches :) , although sea conditions seem to matter more than tide state (at least where I've been fishing)...
I'd be expecting to get bass for the rest of this month, and most likely a bit longer on my usual beach mark (got my best bass ever in November). I have heard tell of winter bass on some of the east Cork beaches, but never have landed one myself as I tend not to fish for them in the winter - maybe someone else can tell you more. They are definitely around, just harder to catch. Also know of some caught plugging in January this year. I think all within your 30mile radius of Cork.
Fair chance of bass off most of the beaches around Cork tbh, some better than others obviously, for the next while anyway.
You'll forgive me for giving out exact locations to the general world, but
if you are looking for a trip out there are a few Cork factions on this site who would be out at various times. I've had the pleasure of fishing with a few of the guys and they are all very friendly. So give me or one of the others a PM and you'll get sorted.

Between now and Christmas can be some of the best fishing for bass off the East Cork beaches. After Christmas they can still be caught, but it gets a bit patchy, and conditions need to be right. It all picks up again towards the end of March.
