Hi lads,
What are your views on:

Q.1 The best method for collecting shrimp?

Q.2 The best way to present shrimp on the hook?

Hi Pat,

I have used one of these, http://www.lobsterprawnandcrab.com/prod ... oduct_id=4
for collecting them before and it worked fairly well. Stick a mackeral head into it and leave over the side of a pier or in an estuary for a couple of hours...not to long though as crabs get in and can damage the net.

Have never fished with them before but always intended to give it a go...theres a good article on using them here,

pat,

tried once or twice with them live, can be a pain to try and keep alive as they are very sensitive, what i did was to tail hook 2 or 3 of them and gently flick it into the water infront of me, this was done on south beach arklow on a flat calm day and i couldnt get a bite on the stuff, while all other hooks were coming in full.

as for catching them, push net or even a kids net in pools or estuaries and you are pretty much guaranteed them

I haven't used them myself but the few bass we have kept this year have been stuffed full of them.

pat every bass i ever gutted had eaten them, usualy they are about 1in. long, it better to pinch of the top half and just use the tail end, on 1 or 1/0 hooks. this is the best month to get the bigger ones inshore, some up to near 4in. thet are easy to get if u use a shrimp pot, whitefish for bait, like small whitin/flats crushed crabs are o.k. the best spots are were u can set the pot in kelp/deep water they must be on the bottom.
if u are around dungarvan i have a few spare pots if u want them.

Pat,

As you may well know, Golden Greys and Gilts are very attracted by Shrimp but I have never got a Gilt on them, but I have got golden greys on them 8) , they have to be good for a host of species, particularly in Cork Harbour!

Cheers,
Rob.
