New Rod

Hi Lads,

Was thinking of getting a new rod and reel....was thinking of a multipler...most of my fishing is from beaches over sandy ground.....want to spend minimum amount of money but want something that is capable of getting 6oz out there despite the fact the owner isnt too skilled!! (ask Roger da Dodger!)

Thoughts?

6oz?? thats very heavy :? . as for the rods and reels i could put up several pages worth of stuff.

Have you got a budget? what is expensive to someone might be cheap to others.

Some of the places I fish have very strong currents...that would be the max I use..........maybe looking at 100 for the rod? what about combo deals?

Looking for at least a 14ft rod

I'm afraid i cant help you there so, i don't really do 14' rods. i find them cumbersome enough with 4oz and 5oz let alone 6oz plus bait.

i would recommend you get a 12'-13' rod, but 100 euro wont get you a decent rod full stop.

Do you have probs keeping your line out of the weed in such conditions with a small rod?

Oisin, for that kind of cash, have a snout on ebay for a Daiwa Sandstorm. They do a 12' and a 13' version in both FS and Multiplier set ups. You may have to go a small bit over the 100 euro mark but you should be able to pick one up handy enough. For the money, you cant go wrong. A 13' with a nice small multiplier, something like the abu 6500 c3 ct Mag Elite is a lovely forgiving outfit for what you'll be doing with it. As for keeping your line weed free.... Adjust your tripod cups up the leg so that your rod stands as high as possible. What a lot of people forget to do is directly after casting, when returning to your tripod, hold the rod as high as you can and as tight to your lead as possible, keeping the line out of the water. No point you standing your rod up tall if its already gathered a load of weed before you even get to the tripod.
