i only use black lug, as blow lug doesn't freeze well at all, first gut your lug after nipping their heads off with a blade, squeeze out all the insides and wrap individualy in newspaper or clingfilm.

i know of plenty of people on here with much more experience than myself - but heres my two cent

take about fifteen and place on newspaper - sprinkle some salt over them - this gets the water out

leave them for an hour or two for the salt to take effect

then change the paper - ive heard of individually wrapping them - but i usually just wrap the 15 in dry paper flat

have caught plenty of flatties on these - they are real leathery to start with but then take on seawater once casted out

i would definitely have some frozen all the time - if your a lazy so and so like meself and your not exactly going match fishing

saves you the bother of being organised for a quick trip locally

good luck

i have had much better results alcohol preserving than freezing. its very good for lug and excellent for rag

if you get any alcohol (ethanol) just cover the worms (as many as you like in a tub) with 70% ethanol and leave in the fridge, they will last for months. maybe even years

far too dangerous, I might come back one night find the fridge empty and decide to see what it tastes like.

a lot of that 70% ethanol most of the time has poisons added to stop the smart lads from having a go at it

yeah, but a lad in the pub told me that lug nullifies the poison making it taste like a fine scottish single malt.

hmmmmm lugsky

well if its anything lilke the crap they use in lazy lug - you probably are better off drinking with it than fishing with it!!!!!!!

I caught a bass and a doggy on the lazy lug !

didn't drink it though

Adam where do ya get that kind of Alachol?? and what fills the remaining 30 percent???

Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:20 am

yeah youre right corby it has added benzene. i dont know where you would go about getting some unless you know someone who works in a lab.

at a guess i would say cheap, but strong, polish vodka would work (might as well try it, that piss sure isnt fit to drink :D )

caught plenty of wrasse on the preserved rag, the stuff i did and kept in the fridge was better quality than lazyrag

Its available from laboratory supply companies, but very difficult to obtain. From memory there's a licence that has to be obtained from some govt dept to prove you're not using the alcohol for the wrong purposes (think it might be from Customs/Revenue)
