Golds loop with impact shield

I was reading one of the Ian Golds articles in Sea Angler and it mentioned he originaly designed the golds loop with an impact shield and recommended it for bulkier baits like crab to avoid wobble. I was going to make a a few up with an impact shield but was wondering should the bottom swivel be abobe or below the shield?

I use an up-and-over which, if I'm right, would be similar to the loop. I put the bottom swivel about 3 inches above the impact shield.

Saying that, putting it below the shield would be interesting ... might avoid some tangles??? I might give that a go myself.

above the shield Donagh. i dont know what you mean about putting it underneath the shield- how would that work. if you are fishing with half an average sized crab or bulky fish bait you can still use and impact lead. just squeeze it when it is in the clip. it shapes the bait so it hugs the rigbody and fits the clip tighter, preventing wobble.

I mean the squence in the trace. Would I go for

lead, lead clip, bottom swivel, impact shield, top swivel
or

lead, lead clip, impact shield, bottom swivel, top swivel

I was thinking of it in relation more to firing out a bulky mack/squid on 2/0s on both hooks. Would the top hook with a bulky bait be more aerodynamic with an impact shield.

i see. yes you could do that. i reckon it is much of a muchness... impact shield could be useful if the bait was to be really bulky but i found even 2/o's fine with the impact lead, it's how you bait up really. personal preference. claims have been made that suggest up to 25yards extra on a cast when using an imapct shield. i reckon, like with most things, that trying the two out and coming to your own conclusion. when using a really really big bait distance is not a priority anyway so wobble would not concern me- its fun watching a big lump spin out to sea anyway if it does happen! :D
