Can anyone tell me what the shore and boat fishing is like in Cork Harbour in mid October please. Also what baits to use and what species could be expected. Thank's.

Think it depends on the conditions really. But it can be pretty good around here in October for fishing as far as I can remember. There is some crossover between the 'summer' species and the winter species. Baits depend on where you are fishing at what you are looking for I suppose. There'd be coalies, pollack, whiting, flats, rays, doggies, bass, gurnard etc etc. Maybe some of the other lads might have better ideas, but if the weather is good, still plenty of fish around.

The shore cod fishing at the Wall in Monkstown kicked off in October last year and fished its socks off. It seemed October was the best month last year for it (late october granted) Bass fishing in the general area was superb too around that time of year. Not sure about the boat fishing as I had mine out of the water at that stage but I cannot for the life of me see why, if you got favourable weather conditions, there wouldnt be good fishing to be had. The sea wont have cooled down again at that stage.
