My rod got two small cracks in it yesterday and was just looking for some advice on what to do.
Can it be used the way it is? I'm guessing not.
Will a tackle shop be able to repair it or will I have to go to Greys? Anybody had any experience with dealing with Greys?
Some pics of the triplex  :

the blank doesnt seem to be damaged, but u could have knocked some strenght out of the spigot, especially since that were most of the pressure is exerted...it looks like it just need re whipped and coated... greys will ahve a lifetime guarantee anyway so take it back to the tackle shop u got it from and do it thro them...if u got it online conatact them a bout it...best of luck

Thanks, the rod was gotten from ebay
You can see daylight through one of the cracks (though it is a very tiny amount) and when I put me finger inside the spigot I can feel both cracks.

If I was to send it to Greys I'd have to cut that broken section up into 4" pieces and send it off to them. However I'm a bit nervous about cutting the rod and sending it off.
Anybody ever have a company repiar/replace a section of their rod like this or anyone dealt with Greys before?
I'm thinking about continueing to use it as it is for about another month, would anybody advise strongly against this or should the rod still be able to perform reasonabley well?

Col,
It looks like the blank is cracked, if it is then its useless, it will break more if you cast it with any force.
The Grey's warranty isn't all its cracked up to be (pun not intended) I think it only covers the original owner and I think you need proof of purchase.
Without seeing the blank its hard to say what fix can be done to it....it is possible to cut off the cracked end and put a double whipping over it, with high build varnish, it wont be as strong as would the original but unless your a big hitter and can really load the rod to its max it may last a good while and light do as a back up rod.
BTW....How did it happen ? your house insurance may cover the rod, its worth checking.

Thanks for the reply,
The warranty is meant to only cover the original owner but when I contacted them they told me all I needed to do was send the rod pieces and no proof of purchase was necessary. Unforuneatley sometimes what one person in a company says and what actually happens can be 2 different things.
The last thing I want to happen is cut the rod (therefore unquestionabley rendering it useless) and send it off only to be told they won't replace as I hadn't included proof of purchase.
I brought it into the local tackle shop and they said they can't d anything.
It happened while I was casting. I was using a 4oz weight and certainly wasn't power casting but I heard a crack and the whole tip went seaward. I'm now begining to think that I may be to blame as I possabley hadn't pushed the sections together enough(thats the only explanation I can think of anyway) :x

Col,
Did you get the name of the person you spoke to at Grey's, if not call them again, say you cant find the proof of purchase ( who keeps them anyways, you never expect to need it) this time get a name and explain your concern. They should keep their word.
Tom.

Snapped the tip off my MK1 Apollo a couple of winters ago and it was replaced no bother. Had to send it in bits and £30 charge but new tip was sent back promptly. Used the time to put new shrink wrap on the butt and clean it up and it looks like a new rod.

I had the same thing happen on a abu survean sx couple of year back. thought the rod was done for. Gave it to a mate rod builder and asked him to have a go at fixing it ( nothinig to lose). Came back like new. still going strong after 2 years. I've kind of abused it ever since ( used in places I wouldn't like to bring one of my good rods) thinking that it would break at sometime but never has.
