heading off on saturday probably goin to greystones maybe howth.
im fairly new to shore fishing just looking to best spots in either location
and methods and bait most successful. any info would be much appreciated.

Dunno about Howth it's mostly rock marks that are dangerous to get to.
Greystones has two beaches, North and South, North Beach is better for fishing at the moment as the council did some works at South beach and as a result there are a lot of snags there at about 60 yards out and you'll have to reel in hard and fast to lift fish over them, I lost a few fish to this the last time I was there.
On the North beach there are a few spots, I always head down to the archway and fish around there, normally I come out of the archway and turn right and head back about 50m towards the town, then set up there.
If you go left then you are into a dirty snag again at about 50-60m out that will lose you a lot of tackle unless you go with flattened leads and pulley rigs which will help with retrieve rates.
North beach throws up, coalies, whiting, rockling, dabs, lots of dogfish, conger, silver eels, all sorts, you normally are sure of something on North beach from a session.
South beach is codling, whiting, coal fish and flats, but normally doesn't produce as much I find.

tanx very much m8 thats great info. ill give that a go.
was thinking of using rag or mackeral as bait on 1/0 or 3/0
rigs. would that be a good idea ?

that sounds good as bait, spray a bit of wd40 on the mack if you want a few dogfish ;)
I have a few reports from Greystones if you look at the catch reports section, or look for posts started by me, should be three or four there from me on Greystones.

no harm to have a 3hook flapper if the ground in front of you is clean. use snoods of 15lb. or less. size 4 aberdeen hooks b940m. handy if you do snag up as they will bend out a lot of the time. u will pick up all sorts on this rig. use a hooksize piece of rag and a tiny tip of mackeral.
