Hey all,
Got my hands on a used one of these today - had been lying in a drawer unused for last few years.
Brought it home - stripped off all the line and proceeded to disassemble it and clean it up......
What a mess of congealed gunk awaited me -
However I could not get the spool out of the reel no matter what I tried to loosen/move and eventually swear at
I had both end plates off and removed all the gearing, clips/springs and bearings etc but could not see how to remove the spool.
I need to clean it up as its making a ferocious scratchy sound when I turn it
Can anyone help me ??
john.

all you nee to do is unscrew the 3 screws on the end plate the handle side, lift it off and the spool should easily be removed.. the scratching sound could be a few grains of sand or salt thats got into the bearings or on the top of the spool barrel..
i find the 7HT the easiest of the reels to clean so you shouldnt have too much trouble, just try remember the order in which parts came off and you'll have no problem putting it back together ...

sounds like built up grease and crap, try to put some sort of chemical on it to loosen up the crap, degreaser or something, its only a suggestion, i dont know what effect this would have on your reel.... i would say it would be grand... i use thgese chemicals all the time in work and ive used them on more senstive pieces of equipment so the reel should be grand

Sorted :D :D :D :D :D
Got the spool out and found sand from half the beaches in the county.
Also had dried rock hard salt deposits on the rim of the spool which I guess was making the scratching sounds.
All clean now and smooth as you like.
:D :D
Cheers for the help guys.
