Dropper/Blood Loop?

Does any1 use these to tie bead and crimp free rigs? Im sort of copying the feathers and hokkai rigs that are bought.... What do yee think of the strenght of the knot? im startin to make my own flashy boat traces fom old ones ive chopped up so i think this knot is ideal...

i used to years ago.. now i only make them up when i have run out of beads crimps etc etc..

the knots are very strong too.. the only down side is that your snood is the same B/S as the rig body, so if anything gets caught you will tend to lose the lot, including shock leader...

early examples of these knots where found in the viking excavations in dublin at wood quay and futher down the liffy near tara st if they worked then for the whoppers they caught then why not now? bone hooks can be carved from lamb bones if you have a spare day and dont want to go fishing :idea:

they are handy when fishing rough ground less gear to loose. Although i know a guy who says that tying such knots weakens the mainline on whihc it is tied, he says 50lb mono with that knot tied in it will then only withstand 25lb. but i use them for the really rough ground and ive had no complaints.

i use them when rough groundfishing for wrasse, althoug i ensure that the hook is tied to the complete line above rather than the line which is cut, at least this means that it is the weight which will be lost rater than the hook length with a fish on

run 2 lines of desired breaking strain alongside oneanother. lets say 50lb for the body and 25 for snoods/ droppers. using a waterknot u can make a series of droppers of 25lb to fish off a rigbody of 50lb. i'll post a pic 2mor if i have time...

Dave, I use that set up all the time on 35-40lb Fluorocarbon for my gilling traces. I have yet to have one of the knots go on me. Traces have no problem handling treble shots of good pollack so I cant see a problem with it. Only suitable really for short snoods on heavyish mono as without swivels etc, they will tangle otherwise. Ill show you on Saturday if you like.

cool Pete, ive tried the rig but i always end up with the drops to far apart ... i like to have them spaced out evenly, is there any soloution?

I used to use this type of knot to construct a multiple hooks paternoster rig for boat fishing.U can combine a different breaking strain snood and body with this knot.The down side is its too complicated to do on board.I usually make a few before each trip for a spare.Its depend on the person,if you so fussy bout your rig and one something that is neat,try this knot.If you want something simple,than stick to the dropper.

It's not that hard, had to look for a while to work it out, but it's obvious enough.

hahaha....as expected when i post the pic before....actually its not that hard....for me....i am just a little bit fussy on the knot and how my rig looks....i like them to look neat and more stream line.....even when tying a leader i most of the time will do a hard to tie FG or Mid Knot just because i dont like the look of bulky knot on my main line.....but in case that i need to tie something fast in the middle of frenzy,i know what knot to use....and back to the topic....i used the blood loop before....and as mention above,only worked on short snood and for me on shallow water....or else u got something that not nice to look at on your rig,but if you dont mind using the same bs strain as the rig body,use a blood knot with 30 lb-50 lb mono,cut one tag end and burn it to avoid knot from breaking.used the other tag end as snood.Cheerrrss....
