Ian Gold's in sea angler...

just thought it was interesting that Ian Gold's said he dosen't pendulum cast anymore and that he loaded his penn 525 with 0.32mm line...

Ian used to tournament cast years ago and could clear 250yds on average, he does pendulum when he needs to, it is well known on the match circuit that not many if any will outcast him on the beach.

For any of the anglers reading this that may think casting isnt that important to fishing, I know that Goldsy's advice would be to join a casting club and learn to cast properly, that why he done it years ago, not to compete against other casters but to compete against other anglers (on the beach) 9/10 you may not need distance, but when you do....aha!!!

hittin big distances all the time accurately can be difficult. personally i think it's best avioded unless nothing is happening, it is working for someone else or you just have a gut feelin! a lot of the time fish are around the beach you are fishing for a reason be it a gulley, rocks or because a food source is at a particular spot. often these features are close in. hitting this spot over and over again consistently often produces more. u can get to caught up in casting and not enjoy the fishing!! :) just thought it was worth pionting out Tom that even someone like Ian Golds uses an overhead! personally i don't like it but it really does have numerous benifits...

I aggree with you to a point, but if the fish are far out and you cant get near them...its home time :oops:

One of the reasons Carp anglers use fixed spool reels, is to get the distance accurate time after time (there is a little easy trick to it) and that needs an overhead thump cast.

the thing that makes ian gold such a good angler he can adapt to any fishing situtaion very quickly ,his skilll and knowledge have been built up over a very long period of time.be it power casting or dropping very long traces with snoods of 24"or fishing with very light snoods in close .he has fished in world championships to the humble club match.i remember reading where he used a lemonade bottle as a float to catch garfish on the surface in a match.the man is a very skilled angler who dont miss a trick,fair play to him.!!!

There is a way of doing it with a multiplier too.....its just not as easy.
