limpets

has anyone ever used limpets as bait, and if you did, did you catch anything. the reason i ask this is because i forgot my bait and had to use spinners and limpets i got of the rocks :oops: i am blaming the wife. p.s. i caught zilch,

you can catch wrasse with them, have done in the past but they wouldnt be my first choice

i've caught a few coalies with limpet when nothing was touching mackerel strip.

If you strip of the soft parts of the limpet and bind it into small sausages with baiting elastic you'll lift flatties on them too. Took dabs and plaice on a rock mark onto sand in Donegal Bay on them bout three years ago

iv had codling on them up to 4lb in the menai straits on anglesey :D

I remember being on a camping trip when I was a kid to a place called Ballylickey in Cork. I dandered across a headland with the rod and a few spinners and was catching Mackerel. I was fishing a rock with a straight drop down, the sea was very clear and I could see fish below. The only thing about was limpet, so I crimped a few swan shot on to the line (I had an assorted bag like you do when you are a kid) scooped some limpet meat out of the shells and hooked up and dropped it over the side. Bite after bite the wrasse hit them. The rest of the holiday, the feathers and spinners were left in the bag, and I fished for the wrasse with the same method for days on end.
It was fantastic fishing, clear sea, and you could see the wrasse come out from their hidey holes to hit your bait.

Thats the way I used the limpets was catching them at my feet.

iv caught rockling, blennies and nice wrase on limpit! seen people catch dogfish on it too..it wouldnt be my first choice bait though!
