Bait & Tackle Price Survey

Tue Jun 19, 2007 9:33 am

Just wondering what the average price of tackle and Bait is across the country. I find I pay over the odd's for standard quality. If I can list a few items to compare:

* 1lb of Rag

* packet of Ammo Sandeel

* Baiting Elastic

* Shockleader (100m of tuff stuff, suffix)

Cheers

How are ya stevie.

Not sure about rag but think its about 5 - 6 euro for 20 rag in dublin

Sandeel about 3.75 for a pack of Ammo

Bait elastic about 2 euro

Shock, not sure about Suffix but have seen Sakuma for as much as 10.50 a spool down here.

It depends on where you go in Dublin.

ABC is expensive, Henry and Southside need to be checked on an item by item basis to see where you're getting better value.
Henry is very smart and has his prices set so that he's at the same price as internet purchases when you add postage, so making the local purchase a better idea cos you know where Henry is.

1lb of rag? I take it that you're referring to 20 rag in a plastic container, like they do here in all the Dublin tackly shops, in any case it's 5 euro if you go directly to Dave Tilly or 6 euro anywhere else.

Ammo is 4 euro a pack as far as I'm aware.

Bait elastic costs 2 euro a spool, mostly.

Shockleader, I got some Greased weasle the other day for 3.50ish in Southside but it goes as high as 4.20ish for 60m depending on the shop.

I'm grand cheers sean. thanks for posting so quickly lads.
The main reason in constructing this mini survey is, because sometimes you can go into a tackle shop and spend £20 on end tackle without even realising it.

Diggers, Dave Tilly in Ringsend tends to supply most of the shops in Dublin.
He has a team of diggers out all the time digging for him.

I think a half pound down here is twenty, I'll check the next time I'm talkin to Dave.

i would say about 15-20 of rag in a half a pound.

I think the old weight measurement for the worms has morphed into what is now twenty worms in a plastic takeaway tray as is the norm for suppliers these days. I think the half pound is from the days when newspaper was used to wrap the worms as is still done in the UK.

Sort of off topic but . . .I was checking out a Century CME in a shop 2-3 weeks ago and was quoted best price @ €468 (incl. €20 discount ) . .so went to Gerry's in Morecambe, rod delivered this morning,(ordered Mon @11am) C Card statement showed €398.12 for the same rod . . .a saving of almost €70 . .

I am all for supporting the local tackle & game shops but in fairness €70 is €70.
