You`re right they`re all crap.
There`s a fish-packing plant in Skeoge where you can get fresh stuff at the back door,my bros use it.
Or fresh mack in sainsburys.
Other than that, get the fork out and start diggin :D

I am a new member to the Forum based on London.
Good Morning to you all
On the question of bait I have fished the West Coast of Galway the Clifden area for many years usually on the annual holiday.
Always had the same major problem shortage of bait and shortage of time to find and dig it for myslef does anyone know of a reliable bait supplier near to that area for lug rag and crab.
Any info would be most welcome regards to you all

hi, welcome to the forum.
as regards to the bait around the area you are talking about(i.e. here!)here's the deal.
Sandeels: mostly mushy crap
Mack: all mushy crap.
Crab: only frozen and cost 8 euro for 4. very hard to collect around here as well.
Lug: not a chance you can get it in a shop, you have to dig it.
Rag: cant get it here or dig it here. doesn't work around this area anyway.
all other baits except squid are mushy crap.
All bait buying here is collected ourselves or in the case of the mack, if we cant catch it we go to the local fish shop!

the frozen sandeels have been fine anytime ive gotten them out of duffys
for the mack get down at the docks if you cant catch your own/time of year, same for the squid
if not try and get whole from the supermarkets so youll know how fresh they are
no rag as mentioned - and dig your own lug
those lazy lug youll be offered are pants
theres plenty of hardback round the city - told the softies are later in the year - but again time consuming looking
so as youve said your time constrained - so as your gettting to the city - stock up and bring it all with you out to clifden :?

no probs. i would just say not to bother bringing rag as you dont need it here. lug, mack and sandeel will catch anything that swims here 8)

For Derry and north Donegal, just spotted an ad in the Journal for the Lough Swilly Angling Centre
http://www.loughswillyanglingcentre.com/
They`re now stocking AMMO frozen baits and freshly dug ragworm. They`re just outside Letterkenny on the Ramelton Rd.Might be better than the usual muck around here.

If you're passing through Dublin on your way, some of the tackle shops in town stock AMMO or similar baits. You could call in advance and they might be able to package it up for you to keep it cool on the way to Galway. Just a thought ...

The stuff out of Swilly Angling is usually good, its all ammo brand so your guaranteed a quality standard. I usually wont touch the unbranded frozen stuff, the quality is just too variable.
