Heavy Rain

I would like to draw on the forums experience of fishing during periods of heavy rain. As everyone is aware, the Ireland has been getting some fairly freaky weather but how does this affect shore fishing. As a rule I would not fish near river outflows when its been raining heavy or raining for prolonged periods as the lower salt levels in the water near these areas seems to drive the fish away. Does anyone have any experiences like this from the beech / rocks / pier etc?

Would agree with corbyeire and fishinmidget. It doesn't seem to have a huge affect on many fish (like flats mentioned)

What about mullet? If its been raining heavily ( like now ) is it better to leave them till after a few days of the weather settleing?

if it is in a eastury then it depends on the temp of the rain. i have found that mullet hate a big influx of cold fresh water. if it is warm/average temp water then it shouldnt affect them a huge amount.

A lot of sea fish don't mind some fresh water as they use it to get rid of the sea lice. Anglers down this way will always try to fish close to where some fresh is entering the beach.

I have notice that when there is thunder in the air the seem to go to deeper water

One of the best sessions i ever had was during gale force winds and torrential downpours at the start of the year (don't ask what the hell i was out in a storm for,i still don't know :? :D ) down in Youghal,with different fish caught.
I don't think rain is going to affect fishing that much,i can blank in all types of weather.. :lol:

Freaky weather is related to changing climate patterns. Freaky downpours are local and have always happened. Change sea temperatures and changed season lengths are probably more important - prtediction is uncertain. Any climate people out there?

I was wondering about this very thing at the weekend, myself and two others fished Greencastle, Culdaff and the upper pier in Moville and blanked on all three locations. Greencastle and Culdaff were fished on Saturday at high water, and movile on Sunday around the first hour of the tide going out. All three locations are normally guaranteed marks for Coalies at the very least!
