baitcasting rod

Anyone have one and use it off the shore? I know a few use them from their boats for light tackle sport but are they too short for effective beach/rock applications
Just wondering are the cheap one handed ones from shimano, Daiwa etc much good(casting about 1/4-1oz). Would they be difficult to cast using your weaker arm as I'm thinking of getting one for use over the summer?

i use one for my pike and macks....havent had time to use it for anyhting else but it is great fun.

I used baitcaster rods for shore aplication.Btw its all depend on what type of application u want to use it.A singe handed rod wont be an issue to use in FW application,but for SW or shore application,u better get urself a double handed casting rods.I have an 11 footer berkley,2 handed casting,20-60g casting range which i used for feather,plug and light shore and pier fishing.I also use a 7 footer,3/8 -1 1/4 oz casting range rod wch is originaly a single handed convert to double handed with extension split grip wch i used to cast in the rock and weed for pollack with the soft plastic and light spinner.The 7 footer wont cast verry far,just enuff to reach the drop off between the rock and weed from the shore.Btw,its also not impossible to cast single arm in a calm condition,its just that on the windy day ,u need extra power in ur cast to reach ur target.For my kind of fishing using plastic with jighead or sometimes weightless for a pollack,in a windy day,i'll use a FS reel.The drawback using a FS is u cant have a direct contact with ur lure on the drop due to the nature of how the line go out from the FS.
