zarat, most fishing areas have a sign up showing the fish that are caught locally.internet sites will show you fish that you'll never catch in them areas!
ps. i notice your irish language is better than your english???

Don't know how many times I've said to down load this. I'ts the bible for anglers.
When you learn how to read it you will never have a problem on how to id a fish again. It shows how to count spines on fins, D-xxii means it has 22 spines on the dorsal fin, ect. It may be in b/w but it still writes on colour variations on the different species.
The cockwing wrasse is one species that can be id'ed differently from the book. It has a second smaller slot ahead of it's gill cover. If you run your finger along inside of this you'll find tiny spines (rough to touch) it's the only of the wrasses to have this.

Useful info there.Didn`t realise that a lot of those species ever came to the Irish coast.
One point in it regarding the Smelt only being caught on the Shannon.
I`ve caught them in the Foyle, but a good few years back.
