live bait

Hi
Can you use live bait in comps ie small flatties for bass (a wexford thing) or small whitting that have been gut hooked

That is a bloody good question.......

I'm guessing, that the answer is yes.... Given that the majority of baits used by sea anglers are live baits... Worms & Crabs. If you were bringing such baits to a comp in a live well, you would have to make sure that they were all under 20cm or whatever the local comp rules are regarding minimum size. If you have a few scoring coalies or whiting for example, then this might be difficult to officiate. If you were to catch them and then put one on a hook, this might be ok with most clubs..

Interesting question. As far as i know livebait is legal for sea angling but I don't know how far it extends. I wonder what the general view would be on keeping/using fish that would be otherwise classed as undersize. Most of us would be unhappy to see another angler kill undersize fish (i think!) but to use as livebait :?:
