Are they worth the extra money when mackerel fishing?

I use these exclusively for mackerel, and usually get a full house on them, the skipper on our boat in kerry over the weekend asked me to leave him a set, dont let them hit the bottom as the pollack love them. I get them from Paul and Martin at crabrock tackle.

The "real" Sabiki's are too damn expensive for mackerel bashing.

Yeah some of the shamrock rigs look good.
Anyone else have any luck with them from the shore?

Check out ebay, I got some of the original gold sabikis very reasonable off one of the sellers....he even threw in a few extra packs to try. The smaller hooks definitely work better, but you will be tortured by small coalies if you scrape the bottom......

it is worth the extra money if you are fishing for pollack! for mackeral..it might make a differance the odd time..but usually they will usuaually take most feathers!

i think they are only worth that price if you are match fishing or if things are very very hard.
if the macks are on they tend to take anything and they will rip apart sabikis as easy as they do other sets. i always carry some, but only use them if its hard going. most of the time i use hokais from ebay, that i find work just as well 9 times out of ten, and i can get for about a euro
the mini sabs are hard to beat for launce and very small fish though

sure look at the new range of shamrock tackle they are much better than the €6 sabikis
i won the first leg of the leinster league boat with them
i had 32 cod 17 pollock a few coalies, wrasse, & ling all just using shamrock rigs and i also won a €50 bet that the shamrock rigs would outfish any other cant argue if i was first out of 72

Yeah Think I'll get some of the shamrock rigs. Thanks for the replys. :D
Is crabrock the cheapest place to get them?

I got a few sabiki rigs in ABC tackle yesterday, they are the ones from Shamrock and they only cost €1.95 a pack, which is unusual because Alan is normally more expensive on stuff.

Just beat me to it man, thats where I get all my Sabikis, always that cheap in there. He must get em on a deal or something becuase as you say, he tends to be at the upper end of the price scale.
Those sabikis are absolutely worth it in everything but the most hectic of mackie sessions. They always seem to outfish any other option down in Courtmac at least and theres always a chance you'll pick up a bonus fish like a cuckoo wrasse or some such.

Just a small point to bear in mind lads, when using Sabikis and similar from the shore be careful which type you buy and what weight you're using with them. Being primarily intended for boat use some can be tied on lighter main line than you would usually use for casting with.

I did notice that the Sabikis from ABC were on 30lb main trace, I always check them, this'll do with 2oz leads and 3oz with gentler lobs.

Ordered a few from Crabrock. Next time I'm in town I'll pick up some of the ones mentioned in ABC. Thanks for the info. :D
Will be sick of mackerel by the end of summer!

Used some of the Shamrock Mardigra rigs today in dun laoghaire. Weren't many mackerel being caught but we managed 7 between two of us and a seal  The seal was left with a pink hook in his upper lip.
