Hi Will,

Have ordered a pair of 5oz and 6oz flat backs with bait clips. They do look the business, I've been trying to get a mould like this for years. Your man Jason seems like a sound bloke too, will keep ye posted when they arrive

Hi liam i was just looking at them last night they look the biz

Lads,

Bumping this one... got those moulds.

Bad quality pic below but ye get the idea. They look the biz although the 5oz mould seems better than the 6oz one. The flatback area on the 5oz is comparable to the surface area of an impact shield. It's a slightly smaller surface area on the 6oz which doesn'5t look as effective.

Don't know how this fixed bait clip is going to work out with rigs incorporating srt springs - am working on a solution!

Out of curiosity, I have used 7" grip wires as ye can see from the photo and they look a bit long. I'm afraid that the extra length will make them too "springy" and not as effective. I'm also trying out a few different shapes for the wires to see if any of them offer an advantage. Any opinions?

Hi Liam i am using 6" grip wires and they seem fine used a few 7" like you said they are to long

I got a 5 and 6oz mould delivered Monday. I got the moulds that are designed for use without the bait clip accessory. I did not like the bait clip mould for 2 reasons:-

1) The bait clip is way too far away from the back of the lead, which defeats the purpose of the leads large flat back. You need to get your bait as tight as you can to the back of the lead.

2) I think that when using srt springs you will not get any release from the bait clip as mentioned by Liamo above.

I modified my moulds slightly so that I could get the loop as tight to the back of the lead as possible. I then use a breakaway imp to get the bait as tight to the back of the lead as possible. The imp also ensures fool proof release.

Have to agree also that the 6" grip wire are long enough.

John,

Completely agree BUT for the sake of argument here goes!

1) I didn't use the supplied baitclips because as you rightly mentioned they put the bait too far away from the back of the lead. The bait clips in the photo are modified by myself to get them to sit much tighter (I can go even tighter). In fact there is less of a gap now between the back of the lead and the clip than there is when a bait is clipped behind an impact shield.
I mould them with a straight piece of 18swg wire which I bend afterwards to form the clip, you can make this bend as tight to the lead as possible if you like.

2) It's the release that's the clincher. Yup SRT springs are going to be a problem and I would imagine will give intermittent release at best. I think I'm gonna scrap them from rigs anyways for 2 reasons 1) they're a bluddy pain in any heavy side wind and when the snoods are slapping in the wind on the way out they can prematurely release no matter how much tension I put on the spring at times (especially with a heavy bait - peeler etc.) 2) I don't like the fact that when a fish is biting/pulling on a snood with an SRT spring there's a certain amout of give becuase of the spring. Maybe it's just in my head but I'd rather a fixed connection point, no give and better hookups? Try both out at home on your finger. Before SRT's I used a slipping bead to compensate for snood stretch, this isn't foolproof either but no worse than SRT's. With this system however I will get much better release (no springs retensioning snoods near the end of the cast); so as the trace crumples on impact with the water/bottom the snoods should fall off? - I hope... No matter, it's all theory at the moment, will have to figure this one out on the beach.

Incidentally I remember an article in Sea Angler a year or two ago with Paul Kerry. He takes ordinary breakaway impact leads and rips the plastic cone off, then just uses the fixed bait clip. Go figure, it certainly looks like a worse solution then either of us have come up with.

Hey Liam,

Just stumbeled accross this thread now. Dont know how I missed it before. How are you getting on with the Namix Leads? I am looking at ordering up a pair or Moulds, but they are on the expensive side, so I just want to make sure they work.

just out of curiosity they will be producing a 7oz version of the mould so i,ve been told, also noticed the same quality difference between 5-6oz moulds,

Hi Lads,

Have been using them all summer and they're the job. Perfect. Throw away the bait clips that are supplied and just use a piece of 18swg wire, that way you can get the bait clip much closer to the lead as in the photo. Quality wise the moulds themselves do look a bit rough around the edges but they cast perfect weights. Very happy with them.

Looks like the same type as liamo

Hi,

I think they're all flat backs? You either opt for a version with the baitclip or without. I would assume the one with the baitclip has just got a bigger grovce cut into it to take the bait clip wire, not 100%
