could anyone recommend a venue where i am practically guarenteed to catch a turbot. iv never had one and only ever seen a few of them caught. i have been lead to beleive that the west coast is the best for them but that doesnt really narrow things down too much, i dont mind travelling for them or the size, i just wanna catch one,
any help greatly appreciated and kept in the strictest of confidence, il gladly take any pms on the topic
thanks

Just fish beside petekd. He's Mr Turbot.

Seriously though, I caught my first ever turbot at Blackwater a month or so ago, so they are about, even on the East Coast.

Paul, use fish baits for them, Mackeral and sandeel or even squid, even use them in a cocktail. You don't really need to worry about the hook size, they have 1 hell of a big gob on them. I would use an aberdeen hook, somthing fairly strong although they will always take the bait/hook well down. When I catch them 99/100 I'll cut the snood and let them discard the hooks themselves rather than poking around trying to save my hook. To me it's not worth it, I'd rather let the fish go than damage it in any way.

Stacks of them on the Donegal beaches, mostly palm of hand size but a few hold better fish. Mayo beaches same story, lots but difficult to get biggies. One of the few places that seems to 'regularly' throw up the odd lunker would appear to be Benone Strand, close to Derry.
