Fished Coolo rock on Good Friday and what a waste of time. There was 5 anglers on the rock and in the 4 hours we were there I saw about a dozen ballans, a dozen coalies 3/4 pollack and a ling. Not forgetting the Basking shark the cruised by about 20 feet out from the rock. The place has been cleaned out by the Eastern europeans who took away everything they caught this I was told by a local angler.

it looks like we are heading in June for 4 days we have a days boat fishing booked as well
Ive done a search Valentia on the site and found a few reports so ill work off that
so our plan is to fish coloo rock for Pollock and wrasse if its not packed or find some were close by ,fishing with lite tackle [rag and hard backs for bait] with a chance of picking up a few mackerel on feather's as well
so lads i ask u is it worth bringing the beach casters and fishing with mackerel on the bottom, will it be worth our while?

thanks Boycie and Donal for your replies but I'm still looking for as much info as i can get so anything would be much appreciated

as we want to get the best we can out of the place

culoo rock is a great conger mark !! i have been told that there is some amount of tope and huss off that rock so it could be worth bringing the beachcasters !!! ill probably down around that area soon so ill let you know how i get on !!

Just to keep the buzz going.
Will track down an OSmap of the island have two other spots one got wrasse and doublers/triblers of pollack and the other only fished it once but had plenty of small ballans and cockwing wrasse + one thornback. Over the mountain to St. Finans Bay on one session I had wrasse close in and at distance. Had turbot, flounder.dabs and dogs at distance. Kells Bay is only a 15 minute spin away fishing the outer rocks on both side of the beach will produce fish. Pollack and dogs on the left, pollack, dabs and wrasse on the right. On this venue you'll be sheltered from any winds from a southerly direction.
Track down the Discovery Series Map No. 83 it covers the island and finans bay
