Sun Apr 08, 2007 8:22 pm

Hi all,

I'm Heading to Booterstown(Dublin) to see if I can dig a bit of bait! I've been before and saw loads of worm holes but I ,being the un-experienced angler can not determine if there rag or lug holes!! Can anyone help me to identify the hole type? Anyone dug there before? All help will be much appreciated!

Cheers

have never been in the area but lug leave a worm like cast on the surface, dig around these and you should find lug

the casts at booterstown are lug, but its hard digging, an easier spot would be the corner of the irishtown nature park beside the ESB powerstation, can be seen from booterstown, in the area you can also get whites, maddies & rag worm. in the soft mud is were you get the rag, you get the maddies & whites digging along the edge of the channels and you will see the casts off the lug.

They leave a distinctive hole in the surface, normally in stoney ground, you'll get them in Sandymount along the stoney edges. You can get maddies or harbour rag and lug out in the cockle lake. Rag are hard work there though, it's tough stoney ground to dig.

if you want BIG MANSIZE LUG then booterstown is the spot i dig all my bass and cod lug on it but you only dig singles they are deeper down than the smaller ones and its hard work but the results can be worth it . its also handy for the dart and bus. start at the depression for the first fork full and dig down 3-4 more towards the cast (popooos)the worm is normaly in the 4th forkfull of sand (dont try to take huge forkfulls you will snap the fork or your back)best to see a pro in action as once learned right its not as bad a job as some make out and you know you have top quality stuff 8)
