Veals are having a half price sale at the moment on these rods. I already have an 'Exreme Villain' rod and find it excellent. Only today I purchased the new 'V3' previously known as 'Voyger'. This is the travel rod in the series and I got it for bringing on my hoidays. These are really good rods and are going for under €100 at the moment. Well worth a buy if you are unsure which rod to go for. The Villain is probably the best of them for us mere mortals giving fantastic performance from off the ground casting with the Venom being floppyer tip for match anglers. the Vendetta is the 'Distance' rod but requires full pendulum to get the best from it. These rods go for €300 in many irish tackle shops! Can't go wrong with Penn rods at these prices...

Bah - bought the V3 from Veals at full price a few months back. Still a bargain though compared to the shops here. Great rod and not just a travel rod either.

received the rod today in tip top condition and will try it out on the grass this evening. The sections are very tight when pieced together. :x Did you also find this Dave? Did they become looser with time? I am going to give it a good going over tonight with off the ground casts with 5 oz and 4 oz leads. Very handy with the two optional tips. I bought the rod for Holidays and as a second quality beach rod alongside my 'Villain'. Looks like it will do the job nicely. How do you find the two tips? I plan to use it in Florida in the next couple of weeks fishing for 'Groupers' and 'Yellow tail Snapers' etc. :P

Took the rod out for a spin last night with my Mag Elite. Put on the heavy tip and gave it a couple of casts. Wow! What a rod! I did not have time to give it a good bashing due to the fact footballers arrived for training and were getting in my way... But so far it seems that in a full off the ground cast it casts better than the 'Villain'! I was clearing over 150 yards without giving it a propper work out. This three piece is well capable of launching 5 oz leads a great distance from full off the ground casts and is ultra slim and light making casting very smooth and controlable. Not sure that it would cope with a full pendulum cast but for mere mortals, look no further. I have no hesitation in recomending this rod to anyone who wants to improve their distance and wants a quality rod and does not know what to buy. This rod is excellent and performs like a 2 piece. Go get one bfore the offer is over!

You won't be dissapointed JD. Don't be surprised if this rod becomes your 'number 1'. Neil Mcellow (How do you spell that?) raved on about this rod and for once the hype was right. It does cast as well as a 2 piece. I was going to go for the PPT Nomad and I would imagine it is even better... but the price of this from Veals at the moment for the 'V-3' left me in no doubt. Excellent quality, Excellent price, Excellent stuff! :D

The whole lot was €98 or something similar. A lot of money yes but not for the rod that you get! Certain tackle shops that shall remain nameless in Dublin (Kieran ) charge €300 for this rod and that gos for all the rods in this series. They are all half price! The Villain is excellent as well and is beefy enough to handle Pendulum should you progress into this casting style. The Vendetta is beefier again suiting Pendulum more in order to truly bend it. The V-3 is great for the Off the ground style cast and will handle this better than many 2 piece rods. 3 piece rods have a bad reputation as lobbers but this one is well up to the job of the full whip of an excessive off the ground. . It is thin and light but a full pendulum would probably be pushing it.

You've convinced me Luke, as has the below quote from Pennfishing.com.
Take it with you
Our brand new V-3 is a 12ft, three piece rod that will cast up to 6oz of lead with a multiplier reel. In fact it will full pendulum 6oz of lead! It is also highly compact – just 52in long when broken down. This rod comes complete with two tips, one fine for normal, clean beach fish- ing AND a heavier tip for when the going gets tough. Fuji BNHG rings are standard and the reel is held in place by our new lightweight adjustable reel seat.
Should have her, along with other bits and bobs by Tuesday.
Actual shipping charge was £20.
Whats was your delivery time like?

Hey luke
What do you think would be the better match
At the moment I could use a classic red abu 7000 or a 6500 class reel called a tica pisces ( I had to remove the level wind though- needs a good service too). I have a 6500 mag which I'd prefer keep on the shakespeare 12ft president down the sticks (as long as "the brother" stays away from it).

The 7000 is first and foremost an uptide reel that is used from boats. It does have its uses for rock fishing and can cast quite well with 100 yards being attainable. It is a real tough man and an al together splendid reel. The origional 7000 (The red one) has bushes instead of bearings that while are fine for casting need oiling after each trip. these are easily replaced with conventional bearings which all ABU's have these days. The levelwind is very useful on this reel and if being used for rock aplications i would leave it in place as distance is often not the object of the game... However make sure and apply copper grease to the worm gear of the reel as the little tooth traveling from side to side will wear with time from excessive casting. Copper grease can be bought in any motorfactors and is fairly cheap. I have two 7000 reels which i use for boat fishing for everything from Pollack to Tope and are my favorite reel of all time for their pure versitility. One is the leverdrag version with a levelwind that i use purely for boat fishing. The other is the now no longer made (blue one) 7500 C3 CT which does not have the levelwind and has a faster retreive rate. This doubles as a shore reel for me and is very smooth casting but you need to not fill the spool all the way. The real tough man for the job!
In summary the 7000 makes a good rock reel but the good old 6500 Mag Elite is the true out and out distance reel. I would use the 7000 for rocks but get onto 'Pure Fishing' (0044 8450500091) and order a set of bearings for it. removing the levelwind is always an option if this suits you. As for the other reel you have, I am not familiar with it and can not comment. The 7000 needs a beefy rod to set it flying with good technique. I used to use a crappy second rod with the 7000 on it as a 'second' rod and it just did'nt have the guts to cast it propperly, while the other rod could.

I use my Villain with the 6500 mag Elite and now with The V-3 i may put the Mag Elite on it instead. The 7500 C3 CT casts very well on the Villain too and i would imagine would cast well on the V-3 also. I will just have to see which combos I prefer. If it is out and out distance you require though the 7000 is not the reel you want to be using. Much better to go for the Mag Elite, Blue Elite, Millionaire 7HT or 525 mag

Yes Luke, the more use the V3 gets the looser the sections should get - you'll probably tend to favour one tip over the other. The light tip is no slouch either for casting. This rod has become my number 1 even though I originally bought it as a portable backup. It has everything that a 2 piece has plus the benefit of being able to fit it in a car without fear of decapitation. The narrowness of the handle makes for easier casting too. Ordered the Vengeance Bass on Friday afternoon and it was delivered on Monday - some turnaround.

Great isn't it when the new fishing toys arrive. Beats waiting until Saturday to get into town so maximizes fishing time!

I bought one when they came out - had it a couple of years now, and the joints still have plenty of wear left in them. I usually use the light tip - feel I can get more bend in the rod. A good cast for me is 150 paces - I guess 150 metres, but usually I'm happy with a little less.

Just got it yesterday. What a great rod, hard to believe its a 3 piece. I noticed to the joints are very tight, but give them time.
Very comfortable to hold too. Gonna take it out later and give it some field use, see whats what.
I too rung around to check the prices and shops were happily telling me €260 - €300, cant help feeling i should have bought loads more gear to bring the shipping total to near 260, then it would be like I had got all the extra gear for free!

Hi Luke,
Thanks for all of the information on the rod. It's great to see such a thorough review from a regular on the forum.
Is it available to take a fixed spool reel also and if so what's the website address for ordering it.
Thanks,
Don.
