salmon from the shore???

anybody ever had a salmon from the shore??

I have often saw them jumping in the sea just off the pier at Easkey

just wondering if anyodys ever hit into one?

Flying C or german sprat - and dont't forget your licence! I'd also be careful about fishing at the mouth of any river such as the Easkey as you might find you are contravening the new salmon regulations - detailed on the http://www.northwestfisheries.ie website. Talk to Markus Muller there.

also a live sandeel freelined is very effective in some locations and a live shrimp / prawn can do wonders as well... also takes the odd big sea trout

I would say an flying C or 18grm toby. rember these fish will probably be on the move so cast your lure well in front of the fish.

Seen one caught on Rossnowlagh a good few years ago, lad was fishing mackerel strip in the surf.

i had one on ballycastle beach last july on sandeel at distance if was a big surprize to me and at 4lb a nice nice prize at that

Ul find it hard to hook salmon in a estuary they dont tend to hold up for long unless there hasnt been alot of rain, theyl usually go straight up the river when they have a chance, but it is salomon so you never know!

don't think i'd try and target them - hard enough to get when you have a pool full of them on the river !! :lol:

had heard 2nd hand of a heap of escaped farm fish being caught on the Antrim coast a few years ago, but was never sure if it was a wind up.

Is that Shankill beach Boycie? If so do you know how it's fishing?I'm thinking about giving it a go over the next few weeks and i haven't been up that way in years!

When fishing down the Moy near Bartragh we got a few to follow our spinners close in but at the last minute they took off, i have seen them many a time in the sea but couldnt interest them, although i have a dvd of them being caught in saltwater in Scotland on the fly up in Uig, so it can be done.

i think this was at glenarm, i seem to remeber it being on the news. There was also some issue about theft and poaching as it was clear that they were from the salmon farm!

Remember seeing this on the news - footage of a young lad cycling up the street with a salmon hanging from either handlebar. Think a load escaped and entered the nearest river straight away, word got around and it looked like combat fishing in Alaska, or mackie bashers in Salthill, there were so many locals lined up :roll:
Not really relevant to this post I suppose as they were caught in freshwater......
Have heard of the odd one being taken in the Erne estuary by lads fishing for sea trout, would imagine they were taken on sandeel or spinning.
