fleurocarbon leader?

im goin 2 tie fleurocarbon as a leader to braid for my spinnin...was just wonderin would this not defeat the purpose of usin braid?

not really. the fluro is only a sight leader as its pretty invisible underwater. the line coming off the reel during the cast will still be braid so it will still cast well and have the same sensitivity.

fluro like braid has little stretch, and fluro can be brittle so be carfeful you have your clutch set so you wont snap off on the take or during the fight, and dont use too heavy a rod for the same reason.

i use clear mono rather than fluro myself

i got a new setup 2day...30-60g spininn rod...and a baitrunner reel... im putting 10lb braid onto it, what strength leader would u use? im thinkin 15lb or sumthin like that...

10lb braid seems very light mr green, you can get some serious windknots in it when you go that light, i would have thaught 30lb wouls have been fine for the spinning.

im seriously underfilling the spool, this should help reduce that

10lb braid is way too light.... You should be looking at 20lb min. I use 20lb or 30lb depending on the venue. Underfilling the spool might help a little, but then you'll loose out of the extra distance you get with braid.

Hi ,i am new here in ireland.Never do seabass lure fishing in here too,but i do a lot of lure fishing back home in malaysia and other parts of the world too.

The rule of the thumb when you re using a braid is to tie a leader at the end of it.As we all know,braid or PE line have a verry low stretch and prone to snap to a sudden impact or load.To overcome this, a leader of mono or fluoro carbon is tied to the end of the braid to act as an absorber due to it stretch ability which is better than braid.

Other purpose of using mono/fluorocarbon is to protect your line from the stucture where you re fishing such as rock.Mono and fluoro carbon have more abrasive resistance compare to braid,by attaching them at the end of your braid which is the nearest conection to your lure/plug; which is more expose to the rough physical of the place that you re fishing will save you your lure and fish.

The size of the leader usually 2 times the strength of your main line.If you re using a 20lb braid,the size of your leader should be more than 20 lb or 40 lb mono/fluorocarbon.The length of the leader can be the same length of your rod or 2 times of your rod length,with a part of leader wind in to the spool.

Theres a lot of new knots have been develop for tying mono to braid leader which is low profile and less bulky so that the knot can pass through your rod guide smoothly.

No prob Mr Green, i am olso new here in ireland fishing scene,have a lot to learn from all you guys bout the tricks which i am not familiar with.

Fluorocarbon is a bit stiff and hard which making it more abrasion resistance compare to monofilament.If your fluorocarbon coil or curly(izzit the correct words?)just hold both end and pull to give it a stretch and it will be straight as a ruller.

About the brand,just be carefull on berkley vanish.I ve read somewhere in this forum that some people have problem with them.Its the same problem i accounter back home in malaysia which i thought due to the diffrent climate.Since the line now proven had problem in cold and hot climate,then maybe its something wrong with the line.When u tie a knot over tight,the berkley vanish tend to bite on the line causes a top layer of the line to peel off which make a connection weak.I have no issue on the other brand if i over tight tying my knot.I used sufix invisiline before,and its proven good.

That is one of the example of how slim the knot . Its a 20 lb Fins braid tie to 25lb Sufix Invisiline using FG knots.
