Bait clips.

Fri Mar 02, 2007 8:33 am

Cant remember when or where but I came across a sort of small hook shape that you could attach onto your rig at any stage and use as a bait clip, hence converting a 3 hook flapper into a 3 hook clipped in a matter of seconds. I'm not liking the breakaway bait clips or the small wire ones that slide into silicone tubing, I also despise rig tying but it has to be done. I liked the look of these as they save a bit of time as all you need to do is tie flappers and can pop the clips on whenever.

Anyone know what they are and where I can get them....???

Haven't come across them, but got me thinking ... could you whip on a clip with powergum??

I know it's not as easy as a clip on, but if you were retro-fitting a clip to a rig w/o tubing, it might work ...

QF Bait Clips

Hi Pete,

You could try these QF Bait Clips, they just wrap around the line, and would be the job for what you need.
They are available from Gerrys

http://www.gerrysfishing.com/shop_detai ... 27&tabID=1

Have also seen the Mustad Rotters wrapped around the rig body to make a removable bait clip.

Hope this helps

Perfect. Sorted, thanks for the replies lads. Dunno about anyone else, but anything that cuts down the amount of time fiddling about tying rigs the better.... Discovered those little rotating swivels that come mounted on a crimpable sleeve recently too, no messing with crimps, beads etc. Slide it on give it a squeeze and your sorted..... :D Any other labour saving devices for the inherently lazy (me) having given up buying rigs as they're cack...

you are easily amused arnt you...

for bait clips...what i used to use was electrical copper wire shaped into the same shape as those ones on e-bay...

as for those swivel mounted crimps... i make my own....

get one crimp, (the longer the better) slide to required position and crimp one end, slide swivel onto crimp and crimp the other end... its a very handy way when you run low on beads and crimps.. (just make sure the swivel fits on the crimp first though)

Its this whole compo attitude of needing about 20 rigs for a session.... A hint of a tangle on any of mine during a comp and they get thrown into a bucket to be untangled or chopped up for the bits at a later stage. Used to enjoy it myself as a relaxant, still do to a certain extent but the amount of fishing I've been doing recently means on occasion I need to tie up 10 at a time and thats a pain in the proverbials.... Especially on a friday night before a comp.... :D

night b4 the comp is a nightmare....

i am not doing that any more!?

it's true what you say, more you go fishin the less u want to/ have time to make them!?

what u need to do is teach the mrs how to make em... get the whip out  wi chee wi chee!!!!

I have 4 big rig wallets all full and never use more than 5 rigs (max) in a session, I even color co-ordinate them to make em look nice, dosn't matter if they are any good but they look nice!!!

I need to get a life, I know! I might start a service!

the night before a comp is the worst time to make traces , they should be done a while in advance ! , i have a comp next saturday and made my traces for it lastnight so i can forget about them ! ther is nothing as bad when you open up the rig wallet the night before a comp and notice its empty !!!!!

Hello all,

I'd better explain this colour thing before I'm branded with the wrong colour brush!!

It all started with an article about Red Amnesia being recommended for clear water in Ireland (Alan Yates I think) anyway on went the Red snoods, then I thought what if the rig body was also Red? ( Red Ice 70Lb! lighter shade buy you can make it work :) ) next to go were the black beads replaced by, you guessed it Red Beads( Hooker Red works best)! When it was done I'd of worn it to a club a masterpiece!! Then as it hung without a lead from my mirror, I mean garage door, the piece de resistance to finish it off... a 6oz Breakaway Impact lead, with the Red top!! Ohhh suits you sir! Tie a 3 hook clip down in all red and you'll see!!

If i can just find a red beach to fish now I'm sorted!!!
