Ive used lug the next day and they were fine but if you were driving I you really need to protect them from heat and sun also make sure there are no ill or damaged lugs before you start out I usually put mine in newspaper. hope this helps.

20 lug in dry newspaper would be fine.

what about wrapping rag, do you do the same as lug?

No, spread out the newspaper and put some damp fresh seaweed in the centre, put the worms in the seaweed and then wrap the newspaper around the weed, they keep well like that. Or else a plastic container lined wit paper, put weed and your rag into that.

It's possible to keep rag for over a week, so it's worth spending some time over them. Don't wrap too many in the same package (20 at most). Wrap them loosely (exactly as Estuary Lad said) so the worms can move about. Don't stack to many packages on top of each other.

Every day or two, separate the less healthy worms into another package. If I want to keep them for a while, I try to divide them up by how healthy they look, to avoid putting sick ones in with good ones. Mark the packages then use them in order of decreasing liveliness.

I use one of those half-height fridges to keep worms in, especially during the summer. Doesn't need to be too cold (I think about 5 or 6 degrees, but I can't remember what the fridge is set at, just know it's right!) but it's important to keep a stable temperature.
