New Rod??

what about a greys appolo m2 13' great rod

these most likely arnt in your choice of rods but what about the imax range, glasgow angling centre are selling them off cheap, i have a 5 stroke 6 and my mate has a 4 stroke 6, both of us think they are lovely rods. i regurly use mine for huss and ray fishing, and have no trouble with it. can comfortably hit 150yds with it with a 6 ounce and a whole squid or mackeral, and have a pb of 204yds (unofficial) in a field with a 5 ounce, its also the rod i do all my bass fishing with. i hav a nemesis slr, and would comfortably put this rod ahead of it, have the 7 ounce one ordered for christmas. only thing is that the reel seat is a load of s%*t so ul need coasters or a fixed seat if you prefer. oh ya and have landed ray to 8+lbs and huss into mid double figures from rough ground and it handled them comrortably.

From my experience of the Apollo Mk 2 it would not be my choice for the picking up flatty bites part of the equation.

Generally I didn't like the rod anyway, prefer the MK1. Just my opinion mind.

Steve, i have the surfblaster rod and like it a lot, i,m no pro though. (back on topic sort of)

was talking to my mate who has the 4 stroke 6 last night, this mite be a little more useful when it comes to flatties, its the rod that he does his ray fishing with although a bit light for rough ground, it stilll punches a mack and squid cocktail 150yards, but with a more responsive tip than the 5 stroke 6. its prob a better allround rod.

What rod did you decide on steve?

I'm thinking of a new rod as a standby to my trusty TDPK13M, which must be a good 12 years old now. Similar requirements. Must be beefy enough to handle the rougher marks. I'm also on a budget (might look at a new spinning rod in the spring).

still taking in suggestions... probably after silly season is over(christmas) and start looking at what has been suggested, see if i can find the rods in the shops to get a feel for them.. then go online :lol: :lol:

well you saw the spinning rod i had.. not bad for 50 quid.. leeda quicksilver.. as youve seen it will pull in a doggie no problem.. had thornies up to 6lbs on it as well.. and good fights with schoolie bass... i'd love to get a big'un on it though...

What about the daiwa Supercast 13PM? All Daiwa's have good bite detection and are keenly priced.

The Greys Apollo is a lovely rod but not really suited to flatty fishing, Have you looked at the Greys Syntra? There are two versions 13ft and 13ft 6ins, I have not tried the 13ft version but the 13'6 rod is well up my list of favourite fishing rods. Good tip for bite detection and plenty of power in the mid and lower sections of the blank to punch a lead a LONG way if needed. 8)
