Best angling spot in ireland?!

The Swilly when the tope are in is special.....mind you, it can be a very short and hectic season and for the most part the shore fishing generally....sucks, for want of a better word. Still, happy memories from this year, got my first tope, courtesey of Andy, on Clarion.

id say teelin in donegal or fenit pier in kerry..

i've been there though the good (bass, bass, bass)
and i've been there through the bad (spider, spider, spider)

but it's like every where.. you get good days and you get bad... it more usual that its the bad days that we all end up going fishin and the good days we cant go fishin :? :? :? :?

have to say that Slate in co Down Always fishes well and throws up the odd surprise eg ling very consistent venue with a good stamp of fish.

i'd say ramore head in portrush cause i've never walked off that mark with out a least 2 or more species over the specimen weight or cushendun when the cod, coalies and doggies are in big numbers....or maybe roundstones in galway or courtown when the smoothies start showing up.... :D

I like fishing the beaches in Wexford during the winter and summer especially around Kilmore and the general area.

As for my local patch I like fishing the Bridges of Ross during the summer time but I haven't fished it during the winter but during January ill give it a bash during the more frosty conditions when the sea is much calmer.

Capa pier is a good venue when your fishing in the right conditions and using the right hooks traces and baits as I have seen cod up to 8lbs caught there but at the moment its almost impossible to fish due to the non nationals fishing there usually drinking out of a bottle of vodka and driving home after wards which is madness.

Id say the best venue in Ireland for fishing is where the most fish are caught :lol:

Let us know how you get on if you hit The Bridges over the winter Neilus. I'd be very interested to see how you got on and what you caught. What would you be tackling as a matter of interest there at that time of year?

I enjoy anywhere I fish as in this country the scenery is always good, but I favor 2 marks, Culdaff beach and a rock mark in Donegal from which I can see for miles and see fanad lighthouse and get a few decent fish. I almost forgot Kerry, one of the fishing spots in the world

wheres slate marlin, ive never heard of it. im from co down must know it as something else maybe.

teelin and ramore would be two favourite rock marks
beaches....well i never got down to the south / south west before, so in ulster, my favourite beach would be waterfoot or ballycastle
leinster, kilmuckridge area
connaught - only ever fished gurteen, wasnt great on the night but i liked it none the less!

also enjoy a nice summers evening fishing from different marks at portrush harbour,

nothing better than a good mix of species in a days fishing i think

slate is between Ardglass and Ballyhornan, deep water rockmark, not one to be fished in bad weather!!

From what we have caught and seen caught from the bridges in the summer, the bridges in winter to be a fantastic C....O.....D.... mark,(big uns!) but don't tell anyone!!!!

however as of yet, no one has fished it. it's such a bloody dangerous mark though in the wrong conditions, as you may have seen yourself. between tides, and swells and all that, the venue might only be safe to fish on rare occasions over the winter. alot of untold potential though, as with the rest of the remote clare coastline.

on a similar note, Henry Gilbey did team up with Bill Ryan (Ross) from the forum to fish some remote Clare rock marks during late summer, and an episode will be broadcast in the New Year, and by all accounts they fished some really remote, hard to get to, and down right dangerous venues to get the pollack and wrasse for the camera.

I know you've had good sessions there but anytime I've fished it with you we've both caught bugger all.

I've heard the stories about cod from the clare rocks and the simple fact why there not fished is it's to dangerous for most of the winter. Cod have been taken from the rocks in carrigaholt along with plenty of other species in the winter and would be a much safer option.

as for sea fishing, tramore,clonea,cunnigar,ballyquin,whiting bay,calaso bay, ferrypoint.
theres more bass cought here than in the rest of the country put together.
even the mediterran fish take there holidays here. 8)

regarding some of the finest salmon rivers in europe you look at the moy and the gaula and the Storfjord rivers, 50+ lb salmon annualy, for seatrout look at the river morum, even the tierra del fiago in argntina cant compete, as well as numerous rivers in wales.the suir is an exceptional brown trout with the greatest acclaim being that it is a wild trout river, although the tweed in scotland can compete in that respect

Donagh when ever I fish with you I catch bugger all anyway lol
But sure ill let you know when the fish are there again must have a meet over the winter in the estuary or beaches...........
