show

Wed Nov 15, 2006 1:13 pm

now thats a question that it takes a brave man to answer, and its not gona be a yes from me but the way i think they do it is to spend maybe one or two days at a particular mark and hope fully get the results and then edit it to get the best bits,if it was to ever get into action im sure there are a few guys on here that would have a go at it.there are horses for courses if you get my drift.....regards ivan

TV Program

Wed Nov 15, 2006 1:48 pm

I made two TV programs this year with film crews. One for Canadian and Amercican television and one for European and FR1. The first program is one hour long the second 45 minutes. Do not underestimate the difficulty and amount of work involved, but it is extremely rewarding.

If any body needs any advice or help based on my own experiences dont hesitate to call or mail

Yeah thats about right :) They would usually do a recce of the place before hand, Make sure there is stuff there to be caught, talk to locals to find out baits tide etc! and also make sure there is other features they need like power sources near by and that there is enough room for Camera and sound equipment and maybe Lighting equipment too if fishing into Dark but would prob just use a strong Camera light! Then Prob fish over a few a few days and Edit the best footage together, Even if the fishing wasn't too good on a particular day they could still put it together to make it look like they were catching non-stop :)

I think that this would be a great idea! I was actually thinking about writing up a proposal for a show like this a week or two ago for when i finish college, but i might think about it seriously now! There's a mountain of Knowledge from people on this forum and they could also act as guides or whatever for the presenter, plus there would definatly be a target audience for sea fishing all they would have to do is look at the sales from Irish Angler etc to find that out!
Sure it's worth a go? :)

Episode 2, Sunday 19th Nov 8:00pm...

The rivers of Bhutan are stacked full of brown trout, only they aren't indigenous to the Kingdom. Their ancestors started life in a Loch in Scotland. In the early 20th Century the fish were introduced to Bhutan's rivers and it is here that Charles travels, hoping to find his fishing Shangri la. His fishing permit granted by the King allows him a week's fishing. He fishes the beautiful spring fed stream of the Gangtey Valley and on to the torrential Tang River, the most sacred in Bhutan. He braves extreme cold and altitude sickness as he heads out with the team in order to catch a trout on top of the world.

For anyone that did see it I think the writing (or should I say pictures )was on the wall in fact I would have taken the hint when the guide started to carve his stick talk about a laugh. He must have thought that someone was taking the piss?? and then to climb for two days for a sardine???? :P

Tue Nov 21, 2006 7:30 pm

mite have been a sardine but firstly its probably one of the highest places on earth that has been flyfished and secondly its all part of the journey he was undertaking.he managed to fish the path that a non indiginous species of fish had travelled from its beginning to its end.i doubt if any angler has done that before, also if you are a flyfisherman you would hav appreciated a programme like this.brings a new perspective to fly fishing and fishing in general.as alot if anglers mite agree catching the fish is only the final building block on the.more often than not it is the journey that makes us come back time and time again, catching is just the bonus

just my 2 cents

re lumpy

Tue Nov 21, 2006 8:07 pm

Re lumpy As a FLY Fisherman myself I was merely pointing out the funny side of the show its not everyday you see Willy's painted on houses or carved out of sticks the presenter surely found it hard excuse the pun to keep his face straight. As for the climb I would have been disappointed with only one fish that's size and if you were truthful I think any one would.

i didnt mean it directed at your statement but just as a generalised view of how i enjoyed the programme

well i can get hold of a camera and film crew together if needed..

have a friend who owns a HD camera and does editing and my girlfriend did tv and film in college.. so she knows the ins and outs of making things for tv
i'm handy at sound editing as well as being able to catch fish   ..

it is something i've been toying with the idea for the last few years..

what we need to do is set up a pilot episode of 30-45 mins and then submit it for funding to make a series to the varoius production companies or broadcast companies..

all you need is someone who can explain what they are doing how they are doing it.. and hopefully catching fish while that are doing it.. but that is where the power of editing comes in ... a weekend shoot to catch 5-8 fish for the episode with various shots of the location, where to stay and how to get there..

as i said.. its something i've been thinking about for a couple of years 8) 8) 8)
