i agree with you col. it annoys me when u see a report and the first reply is "did u put it back" or "was it returned". i am 100% pro catch and release, anyone who knows me or fished with me will verify that. i have released over a dozen specimen fish without any thought of keeping them but only because it is my choice, if someone else choose differently so be it, its their choice and they should not be vindicated for it.and to question the moral standing of some one like bob moss, who has opened up and helped make more accesible such fabulous fishing i find amazing.if he sees fit to keep a speciman or possible record fish its his choice
thats my 2 cents and i no others wont agree with it, but its just my opinion

I seriously cant believe someone is giving bob moss a hard time about C& R. for gods sake lads cop on, if we all did 1% of what bob has done for conservation in Ireland we would be in a very diff position to what we are in now.

I'm going to step in here and set a few things straight, just for the record. For a start, I agree completely with bigcol. Nobody should have their values or motives called into question as regards whether they practice catch and release. Catch and release is a choice, not a law.
There is also a place to discuss the rights and wrongs of catch and release - in fact, there is a whole category for it. Users please bear in mind that it is an open category and if you offend another user via it, there will be consequences - same as in any other category on the forums.
I also find myself in agreement with lumpy - there is nothing more annoying that seeing a report responded to with the "did u put it back" or "was it returned" line.
We have taken the step of adding an option in the reports where those who wish can indicate whether the did the catch and release thing or not. Again, whether you answer this or not is a choice, it's not mandatory.
Liamdenn from the SAI Website Committee also makes a plea to stop this sort of behaviour and I am now adding my voice to what is in any case SAI policy.
A small number of individuals, in all probability with their heart in the right place but a tad misguided in their actions, are giving 'conservation' a bad name and possibly putting a few other users off posting catch reports.
I would like this behaviour to stop now, before it becomes necessary to take further action to stop it.

Well done lads.
Every angler I have communicated with from this site are to a man conservation minded in their approach to angling.
The vast majority of anglers on this site would be happier to see this site as an angling site. Yes there are issues that affect us all that need to be debated and for that we have our conservation forum.
I think the tide is turning (excuse the pun) in favour of anglers and people should feel happy to post their pictures and catch reports without fear of ridicule or over the top reaction from a small minority of members.
This is an Angling Site first!
Jim.
