I just hate the summer saps that come out with their lidl and aldi rods and crappy gear and cause mayhem on the piers and rocks with their beer tins and junk. None of these people respect the fish either and dont kill them properly, more usually standing on their heads or bashing them off walls. Further- more they kill more than they want and end up throwing them round the piers or teasing seals with them. Thats the aspect of mackerel fishing I hate.
Mackerel are graet fun on light gear and I think we should enjoy them while we still have them as this is going to change with the super trawlers scooping them up 1000s of tonnes at a time.

I would have to disagree
There are only a few weeks in the year you get to have a proper go at them and thery are fantastic to eat and use as bait.So its alwyas good to head out with light gear and have a go.
I understand what people are saying. Alot of people fishing for mackeral dont fish for anything else so they dont ahear to the same rules as the rest of us. Empty cans, mackeral feather wrappers and fishing line and rubbish left all over some of our best marks, its a disgrace. Along with these guys outfishing certain hotspots they still aint happy till the place is looking like a dump. Frankly im sick of it.

My main problem is I can't find them when I want them and can't get away from them when i don't! Murphy's law! On a more serious note, some mackerel bashers are a disgrace. Bertraw beach near where i am based (Westport) has a famous mackerel mark at the end. It's also a busy boat lane. Some of them are so stupid they wont reel in as the boats are passing. I know of one guy who's rod was pulled out of his hands by a passing charter because he was too ignorant to reel in his gear. He then drove into Westport and abused the skipper on the quay side. What do you do with people like that? And dont mention the litter left behind...........

PSML!!!! "I know of one guy who's rod was pulled out of his hands by a passing charter because he was too ignorant to reel in his gear."..... I would have cried laughing on the pier.... called it a day for fishing .....run straight to the pub and cry laughing some more!!! as Sparkey said the new sport Rod surfing!!! Heres a question... If he had reeled in the boat does he get to keep it or does he have to put it back???

Theres a thread running re the litter problem and as far as i can see we are all disgusted with this
