East wind - effect on fishing

or baramoters?

anybody on here work in a fish farm? the theory goes fish dont feed when the
wind is from the east, does that mean the dont bother throwing the pellets in
on days when the wind is from the east?

Surely you can see that a controlled fish farm is going to be a lot different than the open sea.

I'm delighted that theres a microbiologist commenting here - I often wondered about the 'down the chain knock on effect' for want of a better word - is it possible SWrasse that under certain conditions things 'switch off' or behave differently lower down the food chain which in turn ripples up?

It's very possible and has been well documented in scientific literature generally, not just in the field of microbiology. I'm definitely no expert in marine microbiology but certain conditions clearly fish better than others based on observations made by many people down through the years and I'm sure the microbial world plays its part in that. As stated by some of the lads above there are so many factors to take into account that to study this would be the work of a lifetime! Also, the temptation by scientists down the years has been to over-simplify the interactions occurring in nature which might miss the point with a problem this complex.

It's a very interesting topic though and hopefully I can use your info. to catch a few bass when the ban is finished!

work for a living, so its quite a strange idea they would all suddenly stop this based on
a certain wind direction. If you claim you have data/observations to show this then
there must be some theory or explanation as to why?

all i have is data that the return numbers decline under certain circumstances - as a fishing guide its my job to factor as many influences as possible into some sense based on years of experiences to maximise customer satisfaction (if its based around fish numbers) - thats what I'm paid for essentially - in other words my fishing is not done willy nilly on a day by day basis

Thats a bit over simplified tbh. There is an ecological food chain from the smallest to the biggest. Its suggested that wind will have more effect on the smaller species (zooplankton, shrimp etc.) and therefore this will have a knock on up the chain etc. I do not think wind will directly affect Bass (unless its very long and cold etc.) but bass follows its food which follows its food and if this has moved... then so will the bass...
