there`s only 1 true marine stickleback which is the 15 spined, never found in freshwater but can be found in brackish water.
the 3 spined is split into 3 varieties, the trachurus variety is found mainly in salt water, the other 2 are mainly found in freshwater but will enter brackish water.
the 9 spined(which can have 10 spines but is still just a 9 spined) is a freshwater stickleback that can also be found in brackish and salt water.
