the shakspear salt mx is a multi version of the fixed spool rod i was using you can get either 12 or 13 foot versions,,,,and they are light and slim,,, and even better i didnt break one,,, (had a bad year last year breaking rods)

Zziplex Bass would be ideal - may be a tad expensive though. :(

Check out the Greys Bze 3-5 oz its 12'6 and costs £110 and can be used with an multi. It has a good bit of back bone and is very light.

Braddels in Belfast should have some in stock give them a ring if you are interested.

I have a Profile too - I, surprisingly. find it quite heavy!!! Bass rods are far better unless you need to cast 140yards with 6oz leads. In my opinion. :)

yeah seirously......the profile weighs NOTHING. i mean compare it to, say, the greys nitra its like holding a feather in one hand and an anvil in the other.

Conor, if you could get your hands on a zziplex profile or bass it would prob be perfect.

Look in the buy and sell section, things often come up in there.

what do you have attached to your profile to make it heavy??? pure gold whippings and a uranium tip ring :shock: :shock: :shock:

The Profile is not heavy but IS compared to the new Zzippy Bass 12'8" - got to be tried to be believed. An amazing rod - even use mine with 150g over mixed ground - no problem!!! :)

What Zziplex Bass rod are you talking about, the older PTX Bass or the new equal section Bass rod, the latter is only 18mm diameter in the butt and is probably lighter in weight.

Talking about the 12'8" with 8ft tip - the nuts. Similar butt size to the profile but slimmer in the tip. :D

The PTX Bass has a 21mm x 5ft butt with an 8ft tip, the Light Bass (aka Bass Lure) has a 20mm x 4ft butt with an 8ft tip....the Profile (standard) has a 20mm x 6'7" butt and an eqaul section tip, all 3 will take size 3mm tip guide.....I cant see where the word heavy comes into it on these 3 rods...sorry :?:

FYI....The new Equal Section Bass rod has and 18mm Dia Butt and is the same length as the Profile....that is light in weight but not enough to make the other 3 sound heavy :)

I am NOT saying the profile is heavy. Just saying that it is compared to Zzippy Bass and that the bass rod will handle most types of beach fishing except rough ground work. I will cast 150g + bait on my bass rod no probs but then where I fish only need about 60-80yards max (which is ok for 90% of all fishing occasions). Only use Profile if the venue requires 100 yards plus or if there is a big tide running - then I may load it with 190g.

I think in the UK we tend to use rods that are far too heavy compared to other countries. The only time I would use a heavy rod is if I was hauling congor up a cliff face or doing the polevault!!!!!

I'm not trying to draw this out but its your use of the word heavy, if by that you mean powerful, then fair enough but heavy ground may be a better choice of wording :)

The reason guys in the UK use such powerful rods compared to other countries isnt because of the species, its more because of the terrain they're used in and the distance needed to get into the fish sometimes, like where you are....the beaches are quite clean but you need distance more that most....where I come from in the north east of England we only need a lob most of the time, but we have to try and extract a fish from deep kelpy ground with a rod thought of by some Americans as a heaver for sharking....so personally I dont think Uk anglers go over-gunned :)

use the profile on the field to cast 50grm and 75grms, you use it to cast 190grms a 100yrds :shock:

a certain member on another forum has been using the profile to cast 150 and 175 gram GOOD distances. if he is to be believed.

Would it be alright to attach the rings and reel seat to a profile myself (well, actually my dad) because i could save at least £100 on the blank and it would cost about £30 for the rings + reel seat.
