i would've agreed with all who said plain rig setup but some thing happened during the summer that changed my opinion. me and the bro-in-law were float fishing for pollock, it was a deep water mark and we both set our float to the same depth and used exactly the same bait. only difference being his float was flying under every cast and he notched up a good few fish, whereas i wasn't getting as much as a bite. i gave in and put a few luminous beads on and proceeded to catch fish after fish. since then i've always put a few beads on just to put my mind at rest.

Using beads are alright for scratching during a comp or flatfishing, but everything else you probably shouldn't use them.

Beads for thornies!

What about when you are afloat fishing for cod. When using artificals colour does make a difference, even in coloured water. Surely adding colour to shore rigs will increase their effectiveness? Codling we have caught lately, not only had hardbacked crabs in their stomachs but also small sand smelts and small flounder. Would beads similate small fish at the baits and stimulate a more aggressive response?

go simple - you want your bait to be as natural as it can . decorating your snoods like a christmas tree makes them heavy which prohibits the movement of your bait.

As i said before both work, depends on where and when, and anyone who says one is better than the other is breaking the rule that there are no rules when it comes to fishing tactics. Sometimes it works sometimes i doesnt. I always find the trace it takes longest to tie is the one that gets snagged the quickest
