2up 1 down or 3 up?

m.b3 good idea, I will just leave 18 inches or so of rig body above the top snood so that I can adjust up to a 3 up if needed.

With my regular flounder rigs I attach the top snood to the rig via a gemini genie snnod link. This enables me to clip if off quickly if I want to fish say 2 hooks out 50yds and then slide a dropper in close. If the dropper doesn't work then I can quickly reattach the snood again via the snood clip. No messing about with extra scizzors or extra rigs.

do that myself. handy when things are slow.

you can also have the bottom snood unfixed, just held in place by a stop knot, so if needed it can be lowered into a 2up,1down

I make mine the same way as JD. That way it can be either a 3up or a 2up/1down, without having to adjust the snoods, depending on which end of the rig body I attach the lead to.

I like the thinking behind a universal 2up one down and a three up less rigs needed. One question though do you use a swivel at both ends of the rig? If so how do you attach the Lead?

The smallest swivels are tiny but rated at 80lbs.
I then use one of these in whatever swivel I want to attach the lead to;

Most anglers I've asked think there is no need for a swivel over the lead but for the sake of adding one swivel I have a rig that can be used either way.

Makes sence but what BS would that type of link be? Have heard a few horror stories of leads flying in the wrong direction. I will be using 80lb swivels so what size of link would match the swivel?

The snaplinks that I'm using I got from Crabrock, unfortunately they don't seem to stock them anymore. At a guess they would be the equivalent of the large. I have never had a problem of one opening during a cast but then I am hardly a powercaster. There are various other products made by Mustad, Gemini and others that might suit you better.

As long as it copes with your casting/fishing style and can clip on and off your lead and swivel and you feel secure casting it its make or design is purely personal. :D
