Hey lads was wondering if anyone could give me some information on the Daiwa millionaire 2 500m reel? I bought one for 20 pound on ebay last week and everything seems to be in working order with it but i'm a f/s user so i dont really know much about multi's...i know its an old model daiwa but was basically wondering if it was a piece of cr*p or if it's an ok multi reel to start with :)
Cheers,
Al

I have one and it has been a good reel, i used it as a bass reel and on a jerkbait rod did job well for both. Well made and strong.
I think its abaout same size as a abu 5500 or even 6000 reel but never been a abu user so check out but looks same. so if looking some info on use for the reel read up on these two abu reels Would have to say it seemed to small as a beach casting reel but never tried.
good luck with the nests only advice i can give is brakes full on and use thumb to control as it enters water and slowly work the brakes of when you fell its time.

Al

Al if u stick at it u wont remember the last time you had a birdie!! i spent about 2 years gettin used to them- no one cud tell me how to set the breaking(not even the person that sold it too me!), no internet to check, no club....bloody nightmare! its one of those easy when u know how things...

I've just joined the birdsnest club too, bought a millionaire S the other day and had it out at the weekend. The only experience I've had of a mulitplier so far is a crappy chinese jerkbait reel that I bought for spinning and practising on multis, I've got an ABU mag elite CT to use on a beach caster when I get used to the multiplier but I'm sticking with levelwinds until I get to know how to use them.
Only had three birdies the other night and that was in the dark so it's not all that hard.

Ah i'm sure with time and practise i'll be fine :)
by the way does anyone know where i can get either? :? :)

I'm enjoying the multipliers, it's a new skill to learn, been fishing since I was about 6 and always fixed spool, well apart from the poles we used as kids which were straight branches with a hooklength tied to the end :P, and the multiplier adds a new skill to it. The millionaire I have is on a mustad viking 116 with coasters, it's a bass rod. The thing feels tight and light, a precision instrument against the likes of a fixed spool. I find when I cast that I am right on the bait straight away and don't have to reel in for ages to take up slack like with the fixed spool I have on the enticer, totally different kettle of fish, even before I get into distance casting. I'll build it slowly towards distance though when I hope to try out the abu mag elite with a nice rod that's yet to be bought.
In all it's good fun and a different feel totally to Fixed spool, just get the hang of not birds nesting.

it does feel a lot nicer than a fixed spool. bonus of a ratchet on a multiplier. trebbles of dogs all day off the rocks is the only time i really want a fixed spool

I think I'm gonna be brave(or stupid! your opinion :) ) and try it out up in Donegal at the comp! hopefully i'll get up there the night before to mess around with it....i'll be bringing the F/S though too just in comp ;)
First comp and only second time using a multiplyer (first time being when i was 12) I think the word 'disaster' springs to mind :D

just as long as your not pegged beside me you can use the multi to your hearts content...
actually if we can peg you between petekd, mb3 and seanibo the rest of us might stand a chance of getting a good result...

Dont do it Al..... :D I'm actually contemplating moving the other way and reaching for a damn good FS Set up for competitions. Just purely for the ease of use and lack of concern during casting....

can i have your reels? i'll show u whats in my tacklebox then!!
long rods/ heavy seas/ wind- many broken longbeams. a 14' rod has it's advantages...
some have turned away from multipliers altogether- fair enough. other lads use multipliers on long light rods :? ...just whatever you like to use.
