Has anyone ever tried fishing a lure with an L.E.D light in it? I suppose it could have some value night fishing?
Also they have some which you can open up and put bait inside.
Again im a bit unsure anyone ever had any success with a lure like that?

If you take a poppin lure drill a small hole in the belly at the tail end, inject fish oil into it, it will drip out as you work the lure. it should be good for about 20 casts, then repeat, it adds to the weight of the lure to, sometimes helping with distance in the cast.
I do think lures catch anglers far easier than they catch fish, I should know, I have hundreds of them, 95% are as good as new, the others are all chewed to bits    guess what ones work

Does the fish Oil help catch rate?
Ever tried one with a light in it?
thanks

I think the oil helps, just liquidize all the s*** that you accumulate and inject it in with a syringe, it cant put fish off IMO.
Not used a one with a light in it yet, but I will if I find one

I fished on the river kenai in alaska for king salmon. The guides there use large long yellow plugs and using bait elastic, they strap a long slim fillet of herring to the underneath and then add oil.
I dont know whether this improved the catch rate, but we certainly caught fish on these.
FWIW

Just a quick query for Rockhopper, can you give us novice lure anglers, a head start and maybe post a list of some of your best lures, or for which lure for which fish, yes I know im being lazy but we would all like to shave a years or two of testing & hundreds of Euro's on worthless crap before finding which is which, and it's not like your giving a mark away!!!
Well?????

Well, we have a Book of Bait. Is Rockhopper up for writing a Book of Lures?

I can hear the typing as we speak, wake up in the morning & the bible post will be ready

Geez guys,
Most of the time I pay no attention to the names of the lures, just whether they catch me or not. I love to use lures, always have done.
Most of the time I use them from the beach in Florida, but funny enough the better fish killers are the plain ones, like the 2oz, 3oz or 4oz Hopkins lure, plain silver metal with either a treble of single hook, great for hitting distance, to me that's important, the longer the lure is in the water, the more chance of a fish.
I've got lures galore, some are not even on the market yet, all kinds of shapes and sizes. Sandman, if you send me an email address I will take some photos and send them to you, then you can post them on the site, if you care to.
Once taking shelter from some bad weather in this little bay in south-west Scotland, I was casting a lure from the bow of the boat, a few other anglers looking on, telling me I was mad because the water was choppy, anyways, as I finished the retrieve and lifted the lure out of the water for my next cast, this Pollack (about 8lb) came about 2ft straight up out of the water and took the lure in mid-air. That is my most memorable fish 8) there is just something different about catching a fish on a lure compared to bait fishing.
Man do I love lure fishing 8)

Charlie,
Did you try changing the battery?
Sorry, couldn't resist........

Hi
Just a note on the most famous popular lures out there. Some of these have been on the go for 20 odd years.
rapala j11
rapala j13
chug bug
bass bullet
If you were to have these four lures you would be able to fish in most conditions for most fish available to lure fishing

Well I guess there may be worth a try..as you say don't suppose it will hurt catch rates any and it nice to give something different a try, I will order some of the L.E.D 1's they are supposed to have a 60 hr life but I don't think you can get into the battery to change it...maybe with a Dremel!
Will get some of the ones that split in half to take bait or sponge and oil or whatever, will let you know how they perform.

I tried a yozuri minnow with a little light stick in it once for striped bass in US - no luck. At night the bass detect motion, and by sight is usually looking up - so darker lures should work best. Striped bass at night predominantly prefer the black and black/purple lures - but on a full moon they'll take brighter colors. The Black Bomber is the most used swimmer at nighttime. Forget the light! If I have a coloured lure that never catches much, I use a black permanent marker to make it into a good nighttime lure. From what I see, Irish bass act exactly like striped bass, only smaller.

totally agree with the last post and have done it many times. the only problem I see is that the smell given off the paint r marker will put fish off. anyone got any ideas how to over come this?
Wed Jan 25, 2006 6:35 pm
are black lures hard to come buy here ? Maybe I should stock them rather than a gimmicky 1's…
im guessing the black lures will catch the more Bass at night but the bright coloured lures with little light's in will catch the most anglers! :D -
what about other specis or in murky conditions instead of darkness..surley a wee light would add to a lures appeal to pollock?, pike ? In thialand they go cuda fishing with light on the water to draw the fish in...

There is a school of thought, that fish don't need to see colours like humans do, some say fish can taste colours, meaning there taste senses know what any particular colour is without site. its possible, almost 95% of what is under the sea is not fully understood by our so called marine biologists, true!
There is a young girl in Russia who can identify colours by feeling them with her finger tips. in the same way I've heard that Cod can identify things by touching them with the lateral line on the side of their bodies.
Possibly in 100 years time, some clever fecker will have all the answers to why fish will take the bait one day and not the next.
To any Marine Biologist who may be reading this..Get back to work and find the answers while we're still fecking young enough to go fishing
btw...... Black Muppet's were always good to have on your rig, if you were wreck fishing in very deep water in the North Sea, far better than luminous ones.

yeah, heard that on the boats though , different colours are more visible in the light spectrum at different depths in the water?

First post here, and I wouldn't be a regular user of internet forums so this may not turn out the way I expect but..
Have been thinking about this:
Some LEDs give a light which is much stronger in one direction than any other - typically 20degrees either side of looking at it straight on?
I'm guessin a good luminous style glow in all directions would be better than a retina searing green in one direction only. You would probably need the broadest beam you could find. I reckon if the lure was made of soft transparent rubber like some shads then the LED would diffuse nicely through it.
In that case some people might say why not try a luminous lure? If you wanna try that, I reckon you could buy tins of luminous paint on eBay or somewhere. Obviously paint would only work on a hard plastic/wood lure. The concept of a LED lure appeals because you wouldn't need to recharge it every cast. If you had a AAA or AA battery in there it would probably go for ages and would add casting weight.
It's an interesting experiment, if anyone has ideas to modify a lure but needs a hand to work LEDs then I could help.
