i already have put in my hours and areas fished bud.i think you have misunderstood the dynamics of my question.just looking to know if anybody has caught any this year.if you wanna keep that to yourself go for it....

Been meaning to head down to fish in Courtmac estuary to try for giltheads but haven't got the chance so I'm no help to you!

happy to help,unlike some cranky f@#ks on here,just dont ask where!!!
the best bait is always the freshest,rag,lug,peeler,mussel and razor will all land you gilthead,sometimes a mix of one or 2 of these baits,rag and a small bit of peeler does it for me,sometimes when i add razor to tip it,they dont bite,moody out like,so vary it as often as you can during your session..a size one or two aberdeen on a light line pulley,works well or a sheppey,havent heard of any yet this year,is why i started this post,you'd swear i was asking for the holy grail i know they like the warm shallows,insofar as 4 ft of water! so big distance casts aint needed...lovely fight of them on lighter gear,let me know how you get on lad...

I'll bring along my beach caster throw that into the middle of the channel and just lob the light rod out and see what happens.

Might wait a few days for the flood to clear, I assume the water is like tea at the moment

yeah dunno the state of it,aint been down in a while,i usually wait till no-tee-shirt-time,july is sposed to be warmer this year,shi*#y weather we have,its still almost two-pants-time...

who is a cranky f//k some day we will meet and you can call me that to my face my name is paudie and a good few cork lads know me.I think you need to have a think about things you come on a public forum asking for details of giltheads well i will tell you this the gilthead bream stock in the west cork esturies are been decimated because of over fishing and fish not been returned .I was one of the first people to come across these fish and have been fishing for them for years one thing i noticed is that as the years passed the fish have become consistently bigger and scarcer [ they seem to be the same year fish] and are in my opinion are not breeding . The marks which these fish frequented are virtually unfishible because of so many anglers so if you feel the need to go catch one go out and do the work and dont come on a site and promote it . RANT OVER

i did have a think about it,plenty of lads on here willing to share info.just wondered if there was any gilts biting.thanks aswell to the lads for the p.m's...i have caught a couple in the past in courtmac,and each one one went back,you'll be happy to know.you were one of the first people to come across a gilthead ya? brave claim.like you i have just as much respect for them and understand they are getting rarer,but in the end of the day if i can help someone to catch one,f@#k it i will.although i will encourage catch and release where i can.
it is to my undrstanding that this public forum is to help others where you can,is that not the point of it all ,after all the sea and the fish are not yours,their ours,and to be honest i hope that lad shortcircuit catches one,if he did he would never forget it...next time i catch one i'l not promote it i'l just do a report on here...

paudie has it spot on.the same pattern is emerging in other gilthead marks, i have not seen a gilthead weighing less than 1.5lb from my marks in the last 6/7 years.when a mark comes under any pressure from anglers keeping fish it collapses fairly quick, i saw a group of anglers remove 20+ gilthead from a mark 1 day a few years back,the fishing in that area was crap after until another small group of fish moved into the area about 6 weeks later.if some anglers hear any whisper of giltheads being caught they descend on the marks with their pals like small armies,they then spread the word around if they caught fish without thinking of the consequences. it was a great relief to see no giltheads reported in the nominated species competition.

There are two alternatives here:

1. Warren Strand at the mouth of the estuary, approached by road along the eastern shore, is the first of the series of bass surf beaches that lie between Rosscarbery and the Old Head of Kinsale.

2. The upper reach of the estuary near the hotel is one of Ireland's top mullet marks. The area also holds gilthead bream. The mullet can be caught both north and south of the causeway carrying the main N71 road. In the lagoon north of the road they are joined by the occasional sea trout. Swans can be a problem for anglers using bread baits for mullet, but the fish have also acquired a taste for less traditional offerings like chicken!

Paddy,you really have no idea who Paudie is do you .Briefly he is one of the most well respected and experienced anglers in ireland and uk He has done a hell of a lot for angling in ireland.What have you done? The chap is an absolute gentleman too boot and only too willing to help any genuine people .Plenty of people will testify to these facts!
When you have caught as many fish as Paudie and many others then you too will gain plenty of peoples respect but so far all you seem to be doing is trying to rub people up the wrong way LIKE!You come on here giving advice which is very good of you but please don't start slagging off people you know nothing about.Oh by the way whilst we are on the subject of brave claims,your recent one about specimen thornback and blonde ray from the shore from that east ferry mark now thats a very brave claim.I mean do you know what fish like that would even have to weigh before such a statement could be made.
Its easy to see now why this website has become a shadow of its former self,too many people have become experts overnight and love nothing more than to see their posts in bright lights and the real genuine anglers with the experience and knowledge have taken a back seat.I mean why would these people give any tips or hints gained over a lifetime when the new brigade of "experts" with a few wet years behind them are only to willing to share their expertise ,I mean these people have learned it all in a few years what has taken others a lifetime to try and understand.THE END!
